RNY to distal RNY
HI all!
I had RNY in 2002 and have gained all my weight back in the last few years. I would love to have a DS, but don't qualify based on my insurances criteria. Don't think I actually qualify for distal, but not certain what the insurance company would consider a revision of a RNY to be. So, my question is, has anyone had an RNY to distal RNY and what was there experience.
Thanks,
Katherine
Have you had any tests done to see if there is an actual problem with your original surgery? Merely gaining back weight is not a sufficient reason to seek out a revision. Many people gain weight back but are able to lose it again once they go back to eating dense protein and avoiding processed carbs, and some of them frequent this forum. Please consider carefully whether you truly need a revision. I only point this out because most people who come on here asking about revisions do so based solely on weight gain. My apologies if there is more to your story.

Yes, I've had all that. The insurance company denied DS because my BMI is not over 50. They want me to get RNY revision. I see a lot of people with the DS say bad things about the RNY/distal etc, but none of them actually HAVE the distal RNY. I was wanting to hear from people who actually have it to see if they do have the complication I hear about.
Check out the revisions board - a distal will give you all the cons and none of the pros of a DS.
Regain is not solely a reason for a revision - plenty of us have regain over the years and still get to use our tool to lose it - it's hard work but not impossible.

I have a distal, although not through a revision.
From my experience, I have the same difficulties as anyone else with weight regain, in that if I eat the wrong foods, on come the pounds. I do struggle with keeping some of my vitamin/mineral levels in range, so I take a bit more of some supplements. Honestly, if you are just going for the distal for weight loss, I don't see it helping much. Changing your food choices would help just as much and would be less dangerous/taxing for your body than another surgery.
