G Tube (PEG tube) fears
Hi All,
My RNY is scheduled for tomorrow and I am really nervous! It sounds like I may have to have a G tube due to some concerns about the complications I had when my lap band was removed. From what I have been reading, the G tube sounds like a huge pain (literally and figuratively!) Any ideas for coping with this and what to expect with the tube?
Thank you wonderful people who post and help us all feel so supported! Wish me luck!
Congrats on your surgery tomorrow, I hope and pray all goes well for you. Did the surgeon tell you that you would definitely need a G tube, and if so, did they say why and for how long? I had my band removed in August and the RNY 3 months later, on November 19th of this year and I did not need a G tube. My band was slipped and they had to repair a slight tear in my stomach as well, but the 3 months wait between surgeries really healed things up well. I was very blessed to have a great, uneventful surgery. I am now 3 weeks post-op and although I was barely able to chew 2 or 3 ice chips the first day, by the end of the 2nd day I was able to sip fluids and eat about 1 oz. of soup twice a day. By day 4 I was able to sip over 60 oz. of fluid a day, it was a struggle and constant sipping but I did it and the more I moved, the better I felt. I know you will have a very easy, successful surgery, I will be praying for you. We will just have faith and agree together right now that you will not need a G tube. Fear is your worst enemy, don't be afraid, just believe that you will be fine and you will. I have a saying that I use when I am doubtful.............If you believe it, you will achieve it! If you doubt it, you might do without it. So, be positive and go into it with a positive frame of mind and believing everything will be just fine, and it will be.
