So full after just taking my meds

UGH between vitamins and my regular pills I get so full after taking them.  I stagger them out so it takes me about 15mins to get them in.  Then between that and the water  I drink to swallow them I am full for HOURS.  (I take some in the morning and some at night)  I am having a hard time getting all my fluids in.  I am trying also to get all of my protein in too but some days it is so hard because of this.  I just don't want to fail at this or stretch my pouch.  Does anyone else have these issues??

Don't get me wrong, I am thrilled to not be hungry all the time but I don't want this to backfire on me and stop losing or have any ill effects if I don't get everything in

actually, pills will dissolve and leave your pouch in no longer than 30 minutes. It is impossible to be " full" for hours. You might feel full, but I bet if you tried to eat and drink ,you would be able too. Stuff doesn't even stay in a normal stomach for hours, unless on is sick.

You posted this on the RNY forum.  Your tag line only shows a LapBand.  If that is correct, you might want to post on the LapBand Forum, or update your tagline, so people can better respond to your post.

Just want to give you a valid response.  I'm only a year out of RNY, so I don't know about how it would be with the lapband.

I had a hard time with vitamins at first.  I would take one and be nauseated for an hour, and this went on for 6 pills a day.  I went to the patch for the first 2 months for multii and calcium(PatchMD.com).   I am now back on the regular chewables with no problem.  Although they taste terrible. Check with your surgeon first, last year the patches were advertised as meeting the ASBMS guidelines, but that has been removed from their packages.

At at year out, I eat the vits with a meal, just so I don't forget.

Thank you for your response.  I am going to look into the patch.  I don' t have the band anymore (not for years) and had RNY on 11/2.  I am feeling like my pills are "stuck" lately.  I take a lot of meds for my heart, my diabetes, gerd, vitamins.  So many pills and having a hard time with them.

I was allowed to take regular pills about 5 days out from surgery, but the Clinic advised that they preferred we use chewables and liquids when possible for the first 5 weeks.  I felt the exact same way you are describing -- I had a potassium pill (that was the size of a small submarine), a metformin and a PPI in pill form with everything else chewable.  It felt terrible at first.

I was dropped off Metformin within 2 weeks of surgery, switched the potassium to liquid (omg, it's like drinking gasoline) and the PPI is so small that it was okay.  I was already using chewables for all the vitamin/mineral supplements.  This made all the difference for me.

For a long time, I stuck with liquids and chewables -- even now, I find that chewable tylenol works faster for me -- and I still use chewable vitamins because I like mine and it's my only "treat" during the day.  Sad, I know.  However, after about 4 months, I no longer had any issues with pills.

Anyhow, I am not a doctor, but what you are describing sounds very normal to me and mirrors my own experience.  Perhaps try liquids or chewables for a bit and then transition back to your pill form as you get further out.
