Hunger pains
Hair, chair... Either way it would remind me to take them haha. I was thinking a PPI was some device or something. I should have read the link. Oops. Anyway, I'm definitely going to take them. Thank you!

Typically with RNY no portion of the stomach is actually removed; the bulk is just separated so it no longer functions as part of the digestive system. I was hungry again the day after surgery and didn't feel satiated again until I was on soft foods (that first slider patty was miraculous!). I still get hungry just like I did pre-op, but it's not as urgent feeling, and it takes far less food to quell the beast now. I try to eat 6 small meals a day. But those first few weeks, I thought I was going crazy because I was legitimately hungry and everyone was telling me I couldn't be.
I realize the plural of anecdote is not data, but here's some firsthand experience from the WLS cases I'm familiar with:
Me: RNY; easy recovery; get hungry
My hubby: VSG; easy recovery; doesn't get hungry
My work BFF: VSG; rough recovery; gets hungry
Another coworker: VSG; average recovery; gets hungry
See, that's interesting because my cousin had the VSG and has no hunger and is telling me because the inactive part of the stomach that they disconnected holds the hunger hormone that I shouldn't be hungry. I felt scared like maybe it didn't work or something... Irrational fears are my new thing. ?
I'm really glad I'm not the only one who gets hungry. I'm also going to be taking everyone's advice and take my antacid regularly. Hopefully it helps.

A different procedure. In VSG the fundus, which is the portion of the stomach that primarily produces the hunger hormone, is cut away and discarded (as is about 80% of the stomach). Eventually, the body adapts and starts producing hunger hormones elsewhere, but usually hunger levels stay a lot lower post op.
But as has been said, your hunger pains are likely a result of excess acid so please take that ppi regularly until things settle down. RNY patients don't tend to have ongoing acid issues, which are fairly common with VSG.

they didn't disconnects your remnant stomach and it is not inactive. It still does everything it used to do except digest food. It still has blood vessels and is still a living part of your body.
It is the part of the stomach that produces ghrelin, the hunger hormone, and since it is still functioning,it continues to produce that hormone and acid as well. The remnant stomach can also get ulcers in it.
Part of your cousins stoma*****luding the part that produces the hunger hormone, was completely cut Away from the sleeve and completely removed from her body, during the VSG. That is why she doesn't feel hunger and you still do.
dont listen to. Anything she says about your surgery cause it is obvious that she doesn't know what she is talking about.
Well she is familiar with the VSG because thats her procedure and what she had to learn about. I however had the RNY and as it seems they are extremely different procedures. I didn't realize how different they really are. Thank you for clarifying that for me. It makes more sense now.

The VSG and RNY are completely different surgeries. Your stomach hasn't been removed. It's only been bypassed. The section that produces ghrelin, the hunger hormone, remains intact for people who have had the RNY.
And take your PPI daily. It's extremely important.

Exactly! All first hand experiences! Isn't it awesome that each of us has our own response to the surgery and we have to learn ourselves all over again after any gastric surgery.. It was months before I was hungry because my initial pouch was so small I had a very hard time getting my protein and fluids in...but each person is affeted differently.
I was also feeling hungry a lot during the liquid stage, and now I sometimes get hungry but I with my eating routine it rarely happens. I didnt have an anti-acid prescribed to me, nor was I told about increased acid production causing hunger, so that could have been why I felt hungry then. really no way of knowing I guess.
