Thinking about having the RNY. Need Pro's and Con's from those of you that have had it...
Hey gang,
I had the sleeve in 2008 and did very well. I met my goals and kept the weight off until a little less than 2 years ago when I began to have some breathing issues and an arm injury that forced me to take steroid injections. Now 7 shots later and I am over the 200 pound mark. Nothing I do seems to help and I can't lose even one pound on a regular diet. I am seriously thinking about having the RNY as I can now eat as much as I ever could and my sleeve surgery seems to be stretched out.
I would like to know the pro's and cons from those of you who have had the RNY after having the sleeve surgery. I would like to know how much time you took off work and what your weight lose is like.
I am 51 and going through the change of life with hot flashes and really sore feet. I have got to get this weight off as I am also really getting depressed.
Your help is appreciated.
Thanks
kc
First, I want to tell you I had a surgery that is a combo of several being done today, so partly an RNY, and did not have a prior surgery. Several have looked at your post and not answered. I believe everyone deserves an answer.
You need to look at the pro/ con of each surgery you are considering, and match it up to your health problems... you need to answer questions for yourself... like,
... do I expect to have arthritis and REquire NSAIDS?
... Does my cardiac expectations include the possibility of using blood thinners?
... If you ate your way thru/ past the benefits How are you going to be able to get past that?
I think... again for me, with your description of your situation, I would start... to handle on the health issues you describe,
(1)there are natural things you can do to help with hormonal balance.(Some are actually inexpensive..)
(2)clean your system with a liver cleanse, to help off set some of the medication side effects, and get your liver working for you again...
(3) Eat a healthy diet, with lots of fresh leafy greens, if you tolerate them...
(4)Use protein shakes, get your protein in,
(5) and REDUCE your stress
.(6) Get your proper vitamins... esp the B complex, C and D3..
(7)Stop worrying about what has happened and turn a positive attitude, to what you can expect to happen when you get yourself back on track.
You can do this! and in the manner you decide, Whether you have surgery again or not is up to you... you can shrink your stomach back to some extent, (even ppl who have not had surgery can, so no reason you can't as well)... just follow the rules... don't eat and drink at the same time...eat smaller meals, measure your amounts.. and make those meals filling... avoid your trigger foods. All of us have at least one.. Learn to tell yourself, "my health is more important that that food".
