Measuring food

I have another question... As of Monday I was promoted to fork mashable foods ? what are the appropriate measurements of food I should be eating at each sitting? I have a "mock" menu but I just don't feel like it really answers this question. I am a week and a half out from surgery so still in the learning phase. I feel like a couple of times I have overfilled my pouch on accident, not severely but enough to realize i probably ate a little too much. Please help this newbie ?

At that point I was eating about 1/4 cup of food at a time for more solid (yet still mushy) things like cottage cheese. Things that were more liquidy, like Greek yogurt, I would eat a whole 5.3 oz container of, but it took a bit of time.

Ok that's good to know, I ate 1/2 cup of cottage cheese and that's when I felt too full afterwards. I am able to eat a container of yogurt with no issues but like you said its more solid things that I can't take in as much. I have also had to really make myself slow down because if I eat too fast (which I used to do) it gets log jammed and I have pain. So I am learning how to eat all over again. Ugh! Lol

Yep! I'm 7 mos out now and still have to work on not eating too fast. In the early stages, it really sucks having to limit yourself, but it's easy to take one bite too much and be in a world of hurt (or risk a leak), so I'd definitely recommend sticking to the guidelines your doc or clinic gave you.

For whatever reason i didnt even consider taking one bite too many could cause a leak. Duh! Thats a scary thought and even more reason to be cautious.

So you have lost 146lbs in 7 months? That's amazing! Way to go! It makes me excited for what's in store as long as I do this the right way. I'm so thankful I have this site. ?

I've lost just under 70 lbs in 7 months...the first 80 I lost was in the 7 months pre-op. I'd lost 80 lbs twice before on my own and wanted to prove to myself I could do it one more time before getting another tool to (hopefully) keep going this time.

Well I am 3 weeks out from my surgery as of today and have been on the soft food or fork mash-ables for the last 2 weeks.  I measure or weight everything that goes in my mouth. I've been following the diet suggestions that my dietitian gave me and it seems to be going good so far for me.  I finally started getting my energy back over the last few days and have been able to do some light exercising (lowest setting on my elliptical and walking daily)  Below is a list of the food I have been eating.  I eat really slowly and make sure that I chew things up really well.  Hope this helps.

Yogurt - 1/2 cup

Tuna - 1/3 cup with 1 tsp. mayo

Scrambled egg - 2 oz. by weight

Hormel Turkey chili - 1/3 cup with 1 tsp. shredded cheese

refried beans - 1/2 cup with 1 tbsp. shredded cheese

baked salmon - 2 oz. by weight

I drink 2 protein shakes each day, 1 in the morning and 1 at night

Thank you so much! That helps me out a ton! I will be seeing the dietician the 21st and will ask her to break it down even more. Thanks again!
