What are the "Foamies"?
Okay, so I have been hearing/reading about the "Foamies" - sounds interesting, but was wondering if someone could elaborate exactly what causes this to happen, and what it is that happens. I'm 6 weeks post-op tomorrow morning, and thus far, I have been blessed to not have had any problems, nor hugged the toilet yet. Although, there was this one time, where I think I ate too much, and I felt like I was going to throw up - but instead my mouth just started running with saliva. Anyways - would greatly appreciate it if someone would fill me in :) God Bless!!

For me the 'foamies' are the pre-cursor to throwing up, you feel it coming right up in the back of your throat. The first thing that always comes up when I get sick is a big glop of forming saliva (I know, ew!) The usually the offending food follows right after.
Usually, I feel a lot better after I rid myself of the offending food. Chicken for me is sometimes fine, sometimes a hell no.

What you had are the foamies. I have no idea why people call it that. There is nothing foamy about it. More like a mound of raw egg whites. It's just thick saliva, your body's attempt to clear a stuck passage.

When I had the band it was just straight up nasty thick saliva, but now that I have revised to RNY, my foamies are actually... foamy!

When my saliva comes back up it can look 'foamie'... Sometimes there is a lot of it...hasn't happened since early out. Too much food or food getting stuck is why I have had it. The food gets stuck because I didn't chew well enough or it was too dry. Or was distracted or in a rush and ate too fast. So eat slowly, chew well, and make sure it is moist... add a little gravy or broth or something. Crockpot meats are good. Use Chicken Thighs instead of breasts. I don't always throw up, but my worst one on a piece of dry chicken burger..stuck for 2 1/2 hours (foamies but not the whole time, like a lump in my throat) and when I finally threw it up I had relief... The foam/mucous is your body's way of lubricating the situation so the offending food can pass.

I had the same problem with a chicken burger. It was stuck in there for a good 2 hours and I felt horrible, burping, saliva the whole thing. Finally I threw up and felt like a million bucks after. It's happened a couple of times and its usually because I didn't chew good enough or it was something really dry
