Lapband to RNT revision- tips and suggestions please!
Hello all,
My name is Nate, I am 24 years old and I am currently in the process of having revision surgery from Lapband to RNY. I had my Lapband when I was 15 and I was not successful with it. Mostly due to my age and not following through with guidelines. I am better prepared and ready to start this new journey.
My question for you all, what tips/suggestions do you have about the RNY surgery that you wish you would of known by prior to having the surgery? That will make the surgery and everything easier.
I am trying to get as much can help as I can so I can make the best out of this.

What I wished I had known prior: I might have opted to do the pre-op liquid diet if I had known other surgeons required such a thing
What I'm glad I had prepared for: super organization of all aspects and a determined mindset
What helps me to know: WLS requires never-ending commitment, support group attendance is good, lasting gratitude is powerful
What I think sabotages the best intentions: old eating habits, transfer addictions like alcohol, lack of support, complications, unresolved emotional issues, becoming lenient with post-op rules for success
To be successful with weight loss surgery you have to change your eating habits. I have to weigh myself everyday. The surgery helps but if you don't do the work you will not be successful, whether you are 15 or 75.
I was 59 having RNY and it was very easy. I felt the same as before except that I do not get hungry ever. The rules are simple, protein first, don't drink with meals, don't eat starchy carbs, take your vitamins, get your bloodwork done.
For the first two years you will not absorb everything that you eat. Take advantage of that honeymoon period to lose all of your excess weight. Learn good eating habits to sustain your weight loss for life.

I just had mine on 11/2. My biggest thing and what you should focus on is definitely get into a support group or keep seeing a nutritionist. It is so easy to fall back into bad eating habits. This board is awesome as well.
I had my psych evals and nutritionist appts to help put me in check and had enough time between those, my approval and surgery to work on me. Be sure to have a support group or plan in place for afterwards forever....I am going to find a way to get to the support group my surgeon offers but it is hard for me because I work nights. I may have to go to OA meetings just to keep myself in check
That to me is going to be the biggest struggle doing this revision...This is the last one I will do so I have to make it count~
