Why do they need the filter information? It sounds like it needs to be removed regardless. Get a second opinion if this surgeon is not going to help you.

I'm no expert, but I think any competent surgeon can remove and/replace your filter.

Any competent surgeon probably could except for the fact that it's completely clotted in my artery and it cannot be 'retrieved' so to speak for fear of dislodging the clot and KILLING ME. The only way is to slice the vein.

IVC filters are subjects of several class action lawsuits.  He is probably trying to solicit class action clients.  Not a bad thing if it's a bad filter... but there are more straight forward ways to do that.

Yes, there are more straightforward ways to solicit, LIKE DIRECTLY SAYING IT. I thought I was being direct by asking for help to identify something to be removed from me!!! It's nice to know most people think of money before anything else.
