Revised Goal
Had my 6 month check up today and my doctor actually revised my goal down. It was originally 164 now its 160. I get that its only 4 lbs but they were so happy with my progress they believe I will go lower than originally planned. I know that everyone is different, but my surgery sisters goal is 170 and she is 6 inches shorter than I am. Does this sound normal? Currently I am at 72% of my excess weight lost.

My surgeon's original goal was 204 lbs -- which was 143 pounds lost and about 70% of my excess weight lost. I'm currently 142 and at 99 - 100% of my excess weight lost depending on the BMI number chosen as ideal. I am working towards 130. You can go to wherever you are willing to work to get.

I feel like a lot of clinics live by the customer service mantra of "under-promise and over-deliver." If they help you set a reasonable goal, you'll only exceed your own expectations by surpassing it instead of being disappointed by not getting to 100% EWL. I'm only 6.5 mos out, but the further I get and the more strength training I do, the less I feel bound by a numeric goal. There's so much more to health than the number on the scale. My original "pie in the sky" goal was 130. My trainer doesn't think I can reasonably get below 150 without losing muscle mass. I'm currently at 82% EWL, so I'll be happy to end anywhere in the 130-150 range.
