NSV-Completion of half marathon
HI guys,
I celebrated the closing of my second year post-op AND my "wish list" by completing a half marathon (i.e. 13.1 miles) this Sunday in Newport News.
Skinny is slow, but was able to complete it in 3 hours 22 minutes! Further, I WAS NOT LAST and was able to pass 6 people.
Unfortunately, it was a bit harder than my "practice" half marathons (I had ran 13 miles, two other times), perhaps due to the wind. I hallucinated the same blonde guy for the last 3 water stops (the last blonde guy assured me that I hadnt see him before..but he looked just like the other blonde guys...). It was difficult enough that at the end, upon completion, I cried just because I was glad that it was over and I was fortunate to have "just enough" in the tank to finish.
So...I guess I will be there next year, and I hope to be faster!

A good pair of running shoes makes such a huge difference. I was fit before my first half, but the shoes were actually too small and I had to go to the medical tent at Mile 9 with the blister that covered the bottom of my foot. It took all my momentum and those last 4 miles were torture. I ran the half 3 weeks ago with a different pair of shoes, no blister and I was 20 minutes faster on a much harder course. I highly recommend getting professionally fit at a good running store.
Yeah, I need to plan a visit to one of local running stores. I could feel the blister start around mile 3 but I knew if I stopped at the medic tent to get it bandaged I wouldn't be able to get my shoe back on, the damage was already done haha! It was on my heal and was at least the size of a silver dollar and who knew you could blisters under toenails?!?! Crazy.
