help!!

Meat, fish and poultry.  I can eat more ground hamburger than I can a steak.  Some fish are softer than others.  I could eat a lot of canned tuna but only a few bites of grilled tuna.  You can imagine putting the food in a glass of water and how fast it would break down.

thanks. i go to my dr on tuesday. i will confer with her and see what else i should be doing. i really hope it gets easier for me.

As usual, White Dove is right.  Adding this:  I do notice some high protein foods give me that full, lasting feeling so I count them as a dense protein, too.  You might have your own, but for me it's things like mozzarella cheese sticks, eggs, Greek yogurt, and homemade protein shakes or protein balls.  Lately, I discovered a vegetable in the lettuce section of the grocery store called Cauliflower Crumbles.  I used the crumbles in a version of Eggface's recipe for faux fried rice. I ate a one-cup serving and got that heavy feeling.  Faux fried rice is now on my dense list, as well...it also made me realize it's been three years since tasting soy sauce.

i have an issue with the carbs though because i cant always help but eat this because in the family situation i am in i cant always afford to buy lettuce or meat.... what should i do? i know it sounds dumb but i live with 7 other people and trying to feed everyone and myself doesnt always work the way i need it too.

Everyone else does not matter!  You have to take care of your health!!!!  Because of the surgery, you don't eat much.  Buying food that you can eat is NOT that expensive.  You need to educate yourself and eat according to your surgeon's plan or your surgery will be all for nothing.

 It sounds like you need to do a lot more research on what proteins, complex carbs, and simple carbs are.  There is a thread on this site where people post exactly what they are eating in a day and how much.  You might want to start reading it daily and model your food intake after what you read.  

You should NOT be eating lettuce.  Lettuce has no nutritional value and takes up space in your pouch.  You need to be eating mostly protein.  Buy yourself some eggs, canned tuna or chicken, deli meats (like turkey or ham that are used to make sandwiches), string cheese, cottage cheese, and Light Greek yogurt.  Don't eat ANY carbs like bread, chips, crackers, cake, candy, cereal, tortillas, pasta, rice, or potatoes. Roll a piece of deli meat around a piece of string cheese instead of a sandwich.  You can even throw it in a frying pan until the cheese melts.

Take what is being served and deconstruct it. Look at how you can serve the others but leave some for you without all the extra carbs.

For example my husband likes past with meat sauce. I make this for him and I just eat the meat sauce or add spaghetti squash. There are probably certain things you make a lot. Look at how you can make it healthier for everyone or just change one portion for you. You have to be willing to put the work into this to be a success

A couple of my favorite high-protein, affordable buys are:   #1)    a meal consisting of a 99-cent envelope of tuna paired with a 99-cent frozen, steamable cauliflower w/ cheese package   #2)   chili made with 1 pound of browned hamburger, 1 can of Manwich sloppy joe sauce, 1 can of kidney beans, and 1 T. chili powder.

Everyone is giving you good advice.  Especially the one about 'deconstructing' food. 

A lady at my last support group had the same complaint you do.  It turns out she is drinking 8 to16 oz!!!! of fluid with each meal.  She was just washing the food out of her stomach and was hungry ALL THE TIME!! 

Make sure you are waiting between eating and drinking.  Recommendations vary - but at least 30 min. I wait 60 min. 

Hang in there - there may be issues coming up in your life that you have suppressed via eating in the past.  You may need to learn new ways to handle the stress. 

Please write down everything you eat or drink and the time.  After a few days to a week, you may find a pattern.
