NSV Alert, and question about iron levels.

I had my 3 month blood draw yesterday, so today I thought I'd check the website to see if my results were in, and they were. I'm offically cured of Type 2 Diabetes. My A1C came down from 8.5 in March of this year to 4.9.

All of my vitamins went up, except for my iron. I'm a little confused about the results, so here is what I have:

Ferritin on 3/17 was 55 and on 11/11 was 123 (good right?)

Iron on 3/17 was 55 and on 11/11 was 39 (boo)

Iron Saturation on 3/17 was 18 and 11/11 was 14

Binding Total iron 3/17 was 307 and 11/11 was 288

I see that my iron is lower, and is just below what they consider normal at 40, but my ferritin looks better. I haven't really been taking an iron supplement since i couldn't stomach the chewables, and i bought some liquid that made me puke. but now that I'm taking pills again, I should be able to find a small pill that I can swallow to get it in.

I'm just confused about the ferritin going up and the overall iron going down. Someone in the know explain this to me? I see my surgeons PA next week for the 3 month follow up, but I'd like an idea of what this all means.

I don't have an answer for you, but I know I was shocked to see how low my iron levels were at my 3 month labs. My surgeon was super surprised to hear that there was iron in my multi--she assumed I had forgotten it completely. Now I have to take 2 additional daily supplements to try to get back to normal and replenish the stored iron. I take 2 pills a day of the OTC "Slow FE". All my other levels were completely normal--just iron that needed supplements...

Please be aware that your diabetes is in remission. You are not cured. For some people, it comes back. Keep taking care of your health and your weight so you have a better chance of staying in remission.

Lol, I just had the phrase "RNY 4 Life" pop into my head.  Wonder if I should get that tattoo?
