How did you determine what all you ate on soft-diet phase?
I'm not sure if this is the appropriate place, or if there's one more fitting, but I am on day 15, and was released to do soft foods. I did have a RNY.
I have been able to eat a decent amount of proteins. We had a nice, soft chicken last night for dinner, that I brought for lunch today, and that's all great. BUT, I would like to start incorporating more into my meals...more variety.
When did you decide to add additional things in during this phase? I have found since surgery, I do not handle milk well (nor ice cream), but yogurt, cottage cheese, and regular cheese are fine. I had tuna yesterday and that worked well, and scrambled eggs are good.
What about oatmeal? Is there a specific kind that you have found is better than the other? Any other meal ideas? I miss cooking. I miss the normalcy of the family cooking something in the kitchen.

There is no easy answer. During every phase its trial and error. I tell pre-ops not to stock up on to many food items and proteins as your taste and smell changes and what you loved pre surgery might make you sick post surgery. I use steal cut oats and add a scoop of vanilla whey protein. You can try it and see how it goes down.

Just to add to what Kathy said, my taste buds seemed to change on a daily basis. I can't tell you how many times i've tried things and liked them and than a few days later couldn't stomach them. I have so much food that I wasted because of this. I did find other foods that are my go to foods and I would always fall back on those. Like the others have said it's just trial and error, lots of trial and error.
I don't eat oatmeal, but if I did it would only be steel cut oats. Check the label of any oatmeal because anything with rolled oats is not whole grain. I ate a lot of greek yogurt, cottage cheese, light cheeses, deli ham, deli chicken breast, turkey pepperoni, turkey meatballs, and trader joe's chicken breakfast sausages during the soft food stage. Now is the time to change for good. Let go of those thoughts of "going back to normal" and find a new normal. Going back to eating the way you used to will only cause your weight to go back to where it was. I had to overcome my tendency of getting sick of eating the same thing all the time, and I still do not have a ton of variety in my diet. Too much variety can be dangerous.
