Internal hernia
Went to the ER yesterday after having the most excruciating pain in my stomach and ended up in surgery to fix the problem a few hours later. Apparently I had an internal hernia that had twisted my bowel. Thankfully I was transferred to a hospital that my surgeon has privileges at and he was able to perform the procedure. Took about 2 hours and they were able to do it laproscopically. Anyway I'm having some pain today, way more than when I had my gallbladder removed. Just curious if anyone else had the same thing and how long it took to get back to normal. Also wondering if its ever happened again to any of you. Worst part is I was feeling great the last few weeks and really getting back in my groove with my protein intake and exercising since having my gallbladder removed.
August, 2015 I had lap surgery to displace my small bowel contained in a Spigelian hernia. My WLS surgeon also replaced mesh on an old hernia and cleaned-up extensive inter-abdominal adhesions. He said there is no way to determine how I got a hernia. I can say with great certainty it was related to constipation. Yes, pain was strong--it took about a month to sit up on my own and another month to get over some kind of bronchial issues that followed. I asked about recurrence and was told the possibility exists for all WLSers. There are two people in my support group that have had multiple bowel events...one who is a 30-something male truck driver speculating along with the surgeon the profession of sitting long periods in a vibrating semi-cab could play a part in his problems. Here's to getting back in the groove...again.
There may be something to the sitting and driving for long periods speculation. I drive around in a car all day at work plus a commute that could take me a while with traffic and probably puts me in a car driving close to 10 hours a day.
I had an internal hernia repaired in March of this year along with significant abdominal adhesion removal. I had another surgery 5 months prior to that one to repair 3 hernias and a full TT.
The pain from the internal herina which I lived with for over 5 months was excruciating. It took me 6 weeks to recover from the internal hernia procedure and almost 4 months to be back at full speed.
Hope this is it for both if us - sorry you went through that. It is rough to say the least!
