Measure cup or weigh servings?
Wanted to get everyone's advise/opinion on if you measure cup or weigh with Kitchen scale all your portions?? The nut told me to use measuring cup for my food. The doctor mentioned use a kitchen scale. I tend to like the kitchen scale myself. Conflicting information.
I hate eye balling as this tends to get me in trouble lol to much food on my plate and also my eyes get bigger than my tummy....... wasted food - plus the dog shouldn't be always eating my left over food!!
At this stage of the game I would use the measuring cup. It's more about volume at this point. I might have been able to eat 1/4 cup of something that I never could have managed 2 ounces of at that time. And a 1/4 cup of chicken will not be the same as 2oz weighed.
After some time passed I was able to start using the scale.
When I was very early out I actually bought a whole bunch of 1/2 cup containers (from Glad I think). I used them for both storage and eating out of. I use them a lot for things like chili, cooked veggies, meat, pudding, etc. for portion control. And as an added bonus, you get that optical affect of eating from a smaller di**** is jam packed with food :)
The only downside is that I had so many in the freezer we sometimes have an avalanche of containers when we try to dig in there!!

When I eat things like lasagna (zuchinni for noodles) or chili or beef stew or cooked vegetables, I use a measuring cup. When I eat meat, cheese or solids I use the scale. I kinda guess when it comes to fruit--2 apple slices equal 1/4 apple, small fruit equal one, and large fruit equals 2 servings. I can't eat 2 servings of fruit yet, so I usually cut the fruit in half.

It's way to easy to cheat measuring cups. You can convert any volume measurement to a weight. It's about accuracy. I even weigh my fluids. You would be surprised how much variance there is between measuring cups. They are highly inaccurate devices, plus you will likely start to heap more into the measuring cup as you get further from surgery. If you like the kitchen scale, use it. There is no good reason to switch.
