This is not a diet and I recommend it should not be treated as one. It is a life style change. It is definitely going to be your personal choice. But saying that, I had RNY Feb 2013. I am pro-RNY.

I can eat what I chose (anything!) but rather eat quality foods instead of the past stuff that made my health bad... good in = good out mentality. I am almost a decade older than you and had all the co-morbidities you listed above, and more, like GERD... for me gone post op RNY. Post op I only take vitamins, and you will too for either surgery you choose. If you do not have to take pain meds... as I've read that VSG post op usually do, and that can be considered a trade-off to think about.

There are trade offs from (RNY) one than another (VSG) but you will need to check and dig deeper at other web sites that have even more professional articles that help explain things. The more areas you search and read about the different WLS the better. You can't get it all from one book or one article. You can never have too much information about this since it will be with you for the rest of your life. The knowledge help extinguishes the emotional misunderstandings, because facts are facts supported by data. This is just a tool, and it is not a solution, and you will have to work with it daily to maintain your success.

WLS is a tool, and you will have to retrain yourself on how you deal and think about food. Just doing the surgery and waiting to add the other things afterwards will cause you stress and grief, and possibly a danger to your health. WLS is surgery, and both are serious surgeries.

I had RNY.. And I lost all my excesive weight. And I maintain 80-85% of that loss... But I wish I knew about VSG.. I would either wait for my doc to offer that than to have RNY.

Too many unknown, Too much Issues can go badly with a blind stomach. I really could use a smaller stomach than a pouch.

If you are determined to have WLS and determined to follow a strict diet -then VSG may be it.

GERD -IMO, is the main issue if you need RNY or VSG.. I have GERD with RNY... And I did.not have it before.. Weird..no?
