Can Anyone Post-Op help me- not sure if this is normal
I had my surgery August 5th at TEGH. It went VERY well and to tell you the truth I felt like a million bucks the day I got out of the hospital. I did what I was supposed to do and to date (3 months post op) I have lost almost 70lbs. Weight loss is wonderful and I am grateful but I have a problem. I feel like death walking. At my one week post op check up they said my potassium was low. I supplemented but it went too low again a month later. My muscles burn and feel extremely fatigued. I am dead tired and get winded after doing anything. I feel anxiety and my heart beats faster than normal. Also I am so tired and even after sleeping I awake exhausted. I went to my family doctor ( who is quite honestly the nastiest human being I have ever had contact with). She reluctantly did some blood tests and said I was fine. She will not look any further into it because she says that its not her responsibility as it is probably something to do with the surgery. I almost always feel sick after eating and some days I struggle to get ANY nutrition. Yesterday I ate just fine and was able to get my protein in but today I just struggled to get a few bites of fish down. IS THIS NORMAL? I also almost always feel sweaty or clammy after eating. Have any of you felt like this? I am taking small bites and chewing and eating slowly so its not that.
Please... anyone?
Get a copy of your results; you can tell for yourself if the results are within parameters. If it looks like you're lower than parameters, then supplement (after consulting with your surgeon) to adjust.
Actually, any physician can authorize blood tests.
For potassium, I have a banana for breakfast every day and my blood work for it has been fine for the past ten years.
Be sure you're taking your B complex vitamins also; particularly the B12 sublingual.
Food can be funny--sometimes you'll be able to eat something and then the very next time you try it you won't be able to deal with it. Then it'll change back again!!!!
Funny ol' pouches--
It's all new and wonderful!

I am with you on most days, I had my surgery the 6th the day after you. I feel sick after eating, like I've eaten a huge plate but in reality a few bites, food makes me nauseous to even think about, I have no energy, when I lay my head down at night poof Im out for the count. I wake up tired. So your not alone. My last blood test was fine though. I've been drinking a protein shake daily that seems to help a little even though I gag trying to drink it lol.
Well I guess misery loves company because I found your post to be comforting. I KNOW this is not normal. I just have no energy at all and hardly ever feel well after eating. Sometimes if I have soup or something I do alright but I can not eat meat - it is painful. I think I read somewhere on here where we are supposed to be drinking whey isolate protein powder and the one I currently have is soy based. I guess I should switch that and see if there is any difference.

At three months out, I was still drinking at least one Syntax nectar shake a day -- and definitely felt weak and fatigued if I was under 80 grams of protein for the day.
However, I really think what you are describing warrants a visit with your surgeon to be certain everything is okay.
