Then THAT is definitely your problem. At 3 months out, you should definitely (even if you are supplementing with protein shakes) be getting that in.

I had my surgery August 5th at TEGH. It went VERY well and to tell you the truth I felt like a million bucks the day I got out of the hospital. I did what I was supposed to do and to date (3 months post op) I have lost almost 70lbs. Weight loss is wonderful and I am grateful but I have a problem. I feel like death walking. At my one week post op check up they said my potassium was low. I supplemented but it went too low again a month later. My muscles burn and feel extremely fatigued. I am dead tired and get winded after doing anything. I feel anxiety and my heart beats faster than normal. Also I am so tired and even after sleeping I awake exhausted. I went to my family doctor ( who is quite honestly the nastiest human being I have ever had contact with). She reluctantly did some blood tests and said I was fine. She will not look any further into it because she says that its not her responsibility as it is probably something to do with the surgery. I almost always feel sick after eating and some days I struggle to get ANY nutrition. Yesterday I ate just fine and was able to get my protein in but today I just struggled to get a few bites of fish down. IS THIS NORMAL? I also almost always feel sweaty or clammy after eating. Have any of you felt like this? I am taking small bites and chewing and eating slowly so its not that.
Please... anyone?
you should see your surgeon and request an EGD to make sure you don't have a stricture.
You should not be having this much trouble at nearly 3 months out.
I thought the same thing though but was told by Kingston that it was unlikely to be a stricture because I did not have any problem drinking. Maybe I will talk to them again. I am also going to get a different kind of protein powder and see if I can get in my protein at least. Perhaps that is why I have no energy and never feel well.

you can have a partial stricture where water will go down past. The stricture but food will not. I wouldn't give up until I was given an EGD,if I had to pay for it myself.
Low potassium, low iron low many things can make you feel like crap...... Go see the surgeon asap. then go get yourself a new primary care physician.... they should never have a 'that is not my problem' attitude.

Make sure to have your ferritin tested. Any levels below 50 you can get symptomatic. Burning muscles, fatigue and getting winded, and irregular heart beat all sound like iron/ ferritin issues. Some of us simple do not absorb iron orally and will need periodic infusions. I had ferritin numbers in the single digits and felt everything you are describing. After my infusions I felt GREAT!
You MUST get your required protein in. If you don't, your body will use your muscles as a protein source... and remember... your heart is a muscle. If you are taking your vitamins, you don't have to worry too much about veggies and fruits, but protein is essential. If you had an illness that required you to take a medication to keep you alive, you would not hesitate to take it. You need to look at protein this way... just find a way to do it.
Are you getting at least 64 ounces of fluid daily? Dehydration can make you feel nauseated. Try drinking something about a half hour before you eat. Sometimes the fluid will relax the pouch, making it easier to eat.
Your PCP is indeed "responsible" for your over all well being. If she refuses to take care of your health and well being, FIRE HER and find a new doctor. It is YOUR RIGHT to insist on further testing.
Sounds like two problems... Low blood sugar. and low potassium.. eat a few carbs with your meats...to help maintain your sugar., that may be the issue and a few crackers can fix that, temorary and tell you if you are on the right track......one of the first symptoms is nausea and loss of appetite. If your potassium is low, a little.. one serving.../ according to package instructions... salt free potassium salt will stop cramps, as will a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar in 2 oz water.. magnesium levels also need to be checked. Sounds like you need to see someone in the Bariatric clinic for a followup, pronto.. rapid heart beat/ palpitations occur when sugars elevate or drop too quickly. Find another family Dr. This one is not listening, and your health is at risk.
