places of surgery
Healingheart,
I like that handle, sounds really optimistic for someone just beginning this process.
Sorry I can't help you,.. I did not want you to tink we were blowing you off....so chose to answer where others have not....there are many persons on this site who have had the same surgery you will have...
Mine was 20 years ago,Memphis Tn surgeon who has been retired 15 years.... so was different. ...from the procedures that are done today. ...and some were developed from the research that was obtained when My Mom and I were part of an Obesity study thru UT/Memphis..
Some of the same problems, with my surgery, still happen with the surgeries today....Depending on what issues you have, someone here will have some advise to let you know that you are normal and be able to guide you to helping you take charge of your health.
Sometimes just knowing what you are doing is normal and reassurance is enough to keep us all on track. What ever procedure you have ..get all your instructions and supplement orders written down.. You need to make copies and put one up. If it is changed for any reason it needs to be noted on your list when changed and why. You will be following these instructions in some form for the remainder of your physical life. Make up your mind before the surgery , you will do everything possible to follow those instructions.
Do you know when your surgery and what procedure you plan to have?

Thank you for responding.
I am not sure yet. I did have my mind set on VSG but now that I found out I have a hernia and GERD told it would get worse and I'm better off doing the RYN. So will see what Dr has to say next week. So as now I am confused not sure what WLS is best for me now. :(
Before you go, please do some more research... look at the side effects of each surgery. each one will have some trade offs. You need to make some wise choices! If you have arthritis, one recommends you never take arthritic meds/( danger of stomach/pouch ulcer)...so you need to research carefully and decide what you think will work best for you...BTW, I had arthritis, and there are meds I can take, but must take them with a stomach protective medication like prevacid.and after you loose weight 60- 100lbs, many issues can be so light as to be insignificant.. my chronic sinus issues went away, I use something during allergy season only now.an over the counter...
I can't advise you, Mine was a hybrid of at least three done today. I have part of the RNY, in a pouch, divided stomach(mine with double suture line)and my intestine was segmented twice, gall bladder out appendix out , have two bands one below my pouch and one above...rationale was, if failed to chew, any food would be caught ,close to esophagus/pouch and could be retreived with a scope instead of repeated surgery...and then I had all but two feet of my colon removed.
It worked. but I do have absorbtion issues with Iron calcium, magnesium and zinc.. also have very bad lactose intolerance, but was already intolerant. Each body responds differently to WLS, Your response and symptoms will depend totally on your body's response...My Mom and I had same surgery, by same surgeon...our intolerances were completely different... same blood type, one half of same genetics...no way to know your response. Just make your best guess! decide you are going to be diligent to follow all instructions. Know your own body...
