Exceeding Expectations!

Feeling pretty excited today and wanted to share my progress! I'm 3.5 months post-op from my revision surgery (band to bypass). I did well losing weight with the band (taking it off and keeping it off), but when my band medically failed, my surgeon was awesome about fighting for a revision, not just a removal. So I went into the revision surgery at a BMI of 33--still obese but considered too small for RNY, typically. I was very lucky!

Everyone told me that I had 3 major factors working against me for weight loss this time: 1.) due to my "lightweight" start status, 2.) because I am a revision, and 3.) I have PCOS. So I was told I should not expect to lose very much. The psychologist in the surgeon's office told me I should only plan to lose 25 lbs total. And even the pre-op planner tool on OH said it would take me 9 months to lose 25 lbs!

BUT...today I am 3.5 months out and down 27 lbs! Each day has seemed slow. It is hard to come here and read people saying they lost 27 lbs before they left the hospital, but I try to stay focused and not compare myself to others. I am just plugging away--tracking my food, getting in protein and water, and exercising like crazy. I stay focused on all my NSVs including the fact that I can now run 2 miles, and my size 8 "goal dress" that I bought myself before surgery already fits!

Last night at our support group, the psychologist looked absolutely amazed to see my progress. He said, "wow, you are really exceeding expectations!". I've decided that "Exceeding Expectations" is going to be my motto. I can't wait to march back into his office when I am the full 50 lbs down! I think I'll have at shirt printed (in a size x-small) that has my motto on it, to wear to that appointment!

Congratulations on your success! I have 3 things working against me, lower starting weight, age 58, and post menapausal. If we go off plan, it shows up right away on our weight loss. The great thing is that after a few months, we are just overweight and can start exercising and wearing clothes we like. I have been watching a couple of people who had surgery the same time as me, they have lost about 5-10 pounds more than me. I am jealous, but I am sure they would rather be in my shoes with the lower weight. And...we will all get down eventually. Congratulations on toeing the line.

I have high regard for WLSers that go through revisions; never giving up. Happy to read your happiness. I like your t-shirt idea although someone posted a picture of them in a t-shirt I can relate to better. The shirt read, "I pooped today."
