first head cold since the surgery. What mess can I take? Do they need to be chewable or liquid?

Banded 12/18/08.  Band removed and revision to RNY on 12/15/14.

Anything with no aspirin and no NSAIDS.

I personally take echinacea and goldenseal.

Someone here recommended Mucinex. My pocketbook likes water, tea, more water, hot baths, kleenex, and sleep.

I take the Tylenol products for colds and sinus.

No, they don't need to be chewable or liquid. I've taken Sudafed ( the real stuff kept behind the pharmacy counters now-generic will work just as well and is cheaper ), the "fake" Sudafed, I've taken the Alka-Seltzer daytime liqui-gels, I've taken the Tylenol cold meds...I also make a big pot of chicken soup.

As long as it doesn't contain aspirin or NSAIDS, you can take whatever you want. I also slather on Vick's Vaporub or Mentholatum.

Make sure you read the labels...I didn't a few weeks ago and took the fizzy Alka-seltzer night time meds-it contains 1,000 mg of aspirin. I have a history of ulcers...oops.

I woke up in between a memory and a dream...

I use Day Quil and Mucinex.

Sorry you're sick!

My head cold arsenal consists of Dayquil, Nyquil, Mucinex DM, and Sudafed if I can get to the doc (it's prescription-only in my state).

Many cold medicine ingredients aren't appropriate for people with high blood pressure, heart problems, kidney issues, and other problems. These include pseudoephedrine, phenylephrine, and dextromethorphan, so unfortunately it's not as simple as take anything that doesn't have NSAIDs or aspirin. Please check with your doctor if you are unsure about what to take.
