I'm so naughty

2 months post op and I stopped taking my omeprazole. Today my stomach is a mess. I know it's because I'm not taking it. I hope I didn't cause an ulcer while I was off of it. I just took a dose. Hoping it calms things down.

I was treated for h pylori a few years ago and I'm paranoid about getting ulcers. I think I'm going to be taking these meds forever.

Was there a reason you stopped taking your meds? What does your surgeon recommend at this point?

They only prescribe for two months post op. I had my PCP prescribe it. I dint go for my 3 month follow up until mid November.

Not proud at all. I used what my Surgeon have me, but I have a history of ulcers pre rny, so I should have known better. I was actually in a lot of discomfort.

How long were you off of it? I've forgotten to take mine over a weekend before and noticed a difference. *hugs*

Think of it as just another vitamin- We'll all be taking vitamins for the rest of our lives, so anti-acid meds are like another vitamin, right? I know that I'm going to switching to OTC Prilosec if my doc says it's okay.

Take care,

It's much cheaper for me to get prescription omeprazole than otc prilosec. I think I pay like $4 for the prescription.

And I've missed many doses of vitamins at times, it happens and we hopefully learn to do better before our bodies tell us something is wrong.

FWIW, I was never instructed to take this post op...and am fine.

The same thing happened to me. I was off omperazole for about a week before that awful burning returned. Back on omperazole and no burning. I can live with that. Good luck!
