My internal furnace is broken

For a long as I can remember,  I have always been one of those people who was always hot.  Middle of winter,  sub zero temps,  and I was still warm.

I'm 6 weeks postop,  and I think my Surgeon broke my thermostat.  It's 74 in the office and I'm wearing a sweatshirt.  My feet are freezing,  and I'm wearing socks!

What gives?

My surgeon just warned me at my follow up that I'd freeze this winter, he said I'm losing my insulation. He said that my body will likely not adjust, so I'll have to layer up to keep warm

Same here, Deanna798!  I had my surgery on 7/27/15.  I've always been too warm and have kept the bedroom in my apartment so cool that my friends have to wear sweaters.  All last winter (in NYC), I just wore a light open jacket and a scarf.

Now the tables have turned, and no one warned me-  I'm freezing in my own bedroom, and I'm so stubborn I refuse to change the temp on it, thinking "I am not cold, I am not cold, I am not cold."  Of course, I was thinking this last night while huddled over a steaming bowl of celery soup for warmth LOL

Peachpie, what your surgeon said make perfect sense-  *nods*  But if I'm this cold currently, I can't imagine what it's going to be like 200 pounds from now!

I was the same, always hot.  I have central air in my house but I still used to put a window unit in my bedroom and cranked it up at night in the summer and also had my ceiling fan on.  Now I keep my central air set at 77 and hardly ever use the ceiling fan.  My window unit is long gone also.  I was at a BBQ two weeks ago and it dropped to like 68 degrees at night and I was freezing.  Good thing is I always loved hoodie and sweatpants weather and now it starts earlier for me

Surgery date: 2/4/15

It is hormons, low fat diet... Etc... Or even issue with vagus nerve...  They aren't sure what is causing that..becuse the feeling cold starts way before the major weight loss.

I was always cold before RNY.. Post up - and I almost aways hot... I am a freak of nature... Lol..

Get ready to freeze your ass off. The same thing happened to me after surgery and I still get cold easy. A heated mattress pad is the best thing ever. Dual control so your sleeping partner doesn't get overheated!

Welcome to my life! My officemate thinks it's hilarious because I used to always complain about it being hot and now I complain about it being cold.

Tips:  heating pad by your favorite chair, microwaving all-cotton socks before putting on, drinking boiled water, and by far what helped the most----movement.  Vacuuming, scrubbing the tub, and mopping floors took the edge off and kept it off the longest of anything.

I wouldn't microwave socks - they will catch on fire.....I know from experience!

Yes, they CAN catch on fire...good point but I risked mentioning the tip because it was one of my favorites found off the internet for making a heating pad out of rice, a sock, and microwaving a few seconds.  However, I skipped the rice part and placed my freezing cold claude-hoppers in the toasty socks with a huge sigh of relief. For the sake of someone microwaving until fire, I will forego the tip from now on.  Thanks, Paula.
