Can someone give me some insight?
What were you eating at a week to two weeks post-op? I am struggling finding EXACT guidelines. What my doctor has outlined is so different than a dear friend of mine's and then when I go Googling I get all kind of mixed ideas.
My doctor outlined that by day ten I can start SOFT PROTEINS and there was never a PUREED phase. Is that normal? What were you eating as a "soft protein" and what other items were you eating during (if applicable) the soft protein phase?
I just feel lost but I am so hungry! I am ready for day ten but don't know what to eat when it gets here.
I'd also like to add that on days 8&9 I can move to cream soups, yogurt, thinned cottage cheese, soft cheeses and the like. Does that sound right or am I not reading the literature provided correctly.
I may just be over thinking it as I tend to that when I am completely unsure of something.
Specifics vary from doc to doc, but the basics are pretty consistent.
Here's what it looked like for me:
Week 1 - liquids (like protein shakes)
Week 2 - purees. Now here's where I struggled because I just can't tolerate the "mouth feel" of pureed anything. So I went with continued liquids, and added small amounts of gentle soft foods, such as soft scrambled eggs. Tread lightly and listen to your body. Still very much in the healing phase...
Week 3 - soft foods. This included cottage cheese, eggs, yogurt, etc. - and some people even started on some ground meats. I indulged in some low fat refried beans during this stage, as well as some well cooked (mushy) veggies.
Week 4 - now into more normal foods, but again it's important to add foods slowly, focus on protein, and keep amounts in check. Here is where you will hear discussion of adding ground beef or turkey, etc. Slow and steady!

This was the same as mine except it was more soft foods like yogurt first then puréed whi*****luded tuna etc. I never ate baby food or anything just chopped really fine or mushed with a little sauce or broth/gravy. Don't overthink it. World according to Eggface blog has suggestions for every stage.

You should trust and follow your surgeon's plan. (Yeah, it sounds like you are over thinking it, LOL.) There are SO many different ones.
I was allowed to start soft foods on Day Three post-op and had scrambled eggs before I even left the hospital (open RNY). I never had a puréed phase, but had a lot of cottage cheese, yogurt, and refried beans with melted cheese the first week, and had tuna and moist baked chicken during week 2. I had no problems whatsoever (nor did anyone else who used my surgeon), but compare that to what has already been posted above? VERY different! So follow your surgeon's plan.

I didn't realize how liberal my plan was until I came on OH. I had zero pre-op diet. I never pureed a thing. I was eating chili on week #2 post-op. Having said that, however, had I known about other more rigid plans, I might have been more conservative liking "better safe than sorry." I was like Mr. Magoo but pulled through okay. I think.
Same exact for me as selhard. If it weren't for OH I would have been eating pasta at week 2 (surgeon's suggestion).

Pureeing anything just sounds gross to me. My plan was:
Week 1 - Clear liquids
Week 2 - Full liquids (yogurt, cream soups, runny mashed potatoes, cream of wheat, milk, protein shakes)
Week 3-6 Soft & Moist Foods
Week 7 and beyond - Solid foods
I am currently finishing up week 6 right now. :)
That sounds reasonable. Have you ran into any problems following that plan? It is comparable to mine and I look forward to tomorrow when I can have more variety in my diet.
Oh, and how thin did you make your taters and with what ingredient did you use?
I haven't really run into any problems except my body has decided to hate yogurt at this point which makes me sad because I actually really like it. I used 1% milk to thin out the taters. I basically made it a soup like consistency during week 2. Same with cream of wheat.
I just find I have a hard time eating in general because my taste buds are changing and nothing is appealing. Though I suppose that is the honeymoon phase so I am trying to be positive about it lol.
