I am almost 5 1/2 years post op and am facing possible gall bladder issues, I return to my surgeon in a week to discuss testing I just completed. My question is how common is this? Are others having/had this problem?

I had to have my gall bladder taken out a few years after WLS. It was a pretty easy surgery all things considered and I havent had any negative effects from not having it!

Extremely common. I had to have mine out after losing 75 pounds on Optifast (the first time I did Optifast!).

Just had mine out in May, more than three years after surgery.  I didn't have stones, it just stopped working... although I suffered a stone in the common bile duct AFTER it was removed.  All I can say is, OW!

As for having it out, best thing I ever did.  I shouldn't have waited as long as I did, but I had a wait-and-see doctor....

I understand gall bladder issues to be quite common. I had my gall bladder removed due to being filled with gallstones about 17 months after surgery and losing 140 pounds. While it was a great relief to have it removed and not having to have those awful 'attacks'... It's even more important for me now to avoid any high fat foods since without a gall bladder those foods have an almost immediate effect... Good luck!
