5 Day Pouch Test

Hi all!  I am returning to this site after years of being gone.  I am 8 years post op and have experienced weight gain.  I got into old habits and slid down the slippery slope and found myself up 25 pounds from my goal.  I am trying the 5 day pouch test in an attempt to stop the insanity!  I am really struggling with this liquid diet thing.  I'm on day 2 of liquids.  I want to eat everything in sight, but I'm not, thankfully.  I'm sticking to it (but with great difficulty).  I also started weigh****chers last week.  So far I've lost a pound. 1 pound! Ugh!

Does anyone have any advice for me with the 5 day diet?  What kind of soups did you eat on days 1 and 2?  I'm trying to stick with just pure liquids but last night I broke down and had split pea soup because I needed to "chew" something!  Did the diet help put you back on track?  Thanks for any insight you have.  I know these boards are an invaluable resource!

Actually, I'd skip the pouch test and get back to basics.

Eat like you did when you were first on regular solid foods. Choose lean, dense proteins and non starchy veggies. Measure or weigh your portions and stick with them. Drink plenty of water. Once you get any white, processed carbs out of your system, you should feel less hungry.

What Audrey said.

The five day pouch test is nothing but a fad diet and, as you're discovering, it's difficult to stick to it. Not only are you subjecting yourself to the carb detox (which is necessary), you are subjecting yourself to lack of solid foods and actually eating (which is not necessary).  All that does is psychologically and behaviorally reinforce all of the old dieting mentality (and failures). Going back to basics, though, will get you back on track with what you need to be doing long term and will reinforce those eating habits.

I'm also 8 years out and had a little bit of regain when I had my knees replaced (Nd then got off track in carbs while recuperating for a different surgery the past month), so I am back to basics myself.  It is much easier than a fad diet that makes you feel deprived (and may very likely trigger that diet - deprivation - overeat (or mis-eat) - regain cycle).

Thank you for the honest advice. I hear you both and agree with what you are saying. I'll have to decide if I'll stick to it or not. I am ready to get back to basics for sure. I know what I need to do and just need to do it I suppose! Thanks for the words of wisdom. 😀

I commend you for coming back after 8 years and a regain of only 25 pounds.  Most of the posts I see when someone comes back, involves a person who has regained either 100 pounds or all of their weight.  So, you are taking action, and will get in control.

Such good advice you have been given. I couldn't agree more . That 5 day pouch deal is just another diet and haven't we all dieted enough. Back to basics . You can do it

I did the 5 day pouch test and it got me back on tract.  I am 3.5 years out and had put back on 8 lbs.  Since the 5 day pouch test I got off what I gained plus some.  Its really to make you feel like you are in control, if you question your pouch.  It makes you realize that your pouch really is working the way it is supposed to.  I believe in the 5 day pouch test to rid your body of your carb addiction and get you back on track.

Good Luck.
