Peer review?

A peer to peer is your best shot at this point -- it means your doc will be speaking directly with a doc at your insurance company to explain why you need the surgery. In the field of medicine I work in, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't, but it's certainly better than being told "this policy excludes this altogether." It means you have a chance!
My peer to peer review failed. The doctor failed to convince them I needed the surgery. The next step for me was a personal appeal. I was approved on day 30 of 30. Woot! Don't give up!!!
Another option a friend of mine is pursueing, is a university is doing it. The surgeon is still a legit doc, the only difference is he's training other students during the process. Then after that they (the students) intern under another doc before they become certified. Something you may want to look into if your insurance fails....
Good luck with the peer review though for now!!!
My band-to-bypass was approved after a peer-to-peer appeal.
Lap-Band 2007
Lap-Band Replaced 2011
APPROVED for revision to RNY! Awaiting surgery date!
I had a peer to peer when I went through the approval process last December. It got approved afterwards. The good news is the doctor told me if the peer to peer didn't work - they could try again after 30 days and some extra work on my end (had to meet once more with the nutritionist and had to show a little loss). Keep the faith!
