Coffee
I started 4 months out--decaf with 3 oz of premier protein instead of creamer. I drink both iced coffee and hot coffee.
I think I made it one, maybe two weeks without caffeine. I started with black tea because it is not so acidic. I moved to regular coffee by 10 or so weeks after surgery. My dietitian just said to make sure I was getting enough water first.

My surgeon allowed coffee after 1 month recovery. That was a very long month...
I drink a lot of coffee.

I was cleared for fully leaded at 1 month. I was allowed decaf before that. But umm decaf LOL what's the point ;)
Coffee is one of those things some programs have some major variations with... usually (if they aren't the few sadists ;) that don't allow it) they would like you to wait till everything heals... it can irritate ulcers (and basically the surgery itself is an sort of man-made ulcer while it is healing) and... if you have a history of ulcers often that is why Dr's say no go.
Dehydration is another issue... water is most important and you want to be sure that is the main focus. Dehydration is one of the 2 major causes of readmittance in the first 30 days post-op.
Liquid calories is another... if you add a lot to your coffee... creamers or milk those cals can add up. I add vanilla soy milk and that has cals and some sugar grams... protein too ;) so account for anything like that.
So... ultimately ask your Dr. for sure. You are going to get answers that run the gamut on this one.
I had coffee on my tray in the hospital as well. I do drink my caffeine, usually a giant 16oz cup tea in AM, before protein...

I was given coffee on my hospital trays, but did not drink it for fear it would cause issues. I am 8 weeks post op and started drinking it "normally" about a week ago. I drink mine with just a touch of unsweetened almond milk. If I crave a different flavor, I'll put in some (real) vanilla extract, but just a touch. I do find that where I used to drink about 2 cups every morning, it takes me half the morning to finish a full cup. ... so I"m down to about a half a cup most mornings.

My doctor allowed me to have coffee and tea right away even in the hospital ... thank God cuz I'm a total caffeine addict .
I keep the calories low by using sugar free Torani and DaVinci syrups to sweeten and fat free skim milk powder to lighten . If I really want to lose weight I switch from cows ski milk to almond milk lite but I don't really like it . Good luck!
