Liquid Diet...bleh
Just started my liquid diet today. My surgery date is on September 21st. The last time I started my liquid diet it was very shortly before my surgery when my insurance called and said they wouldn't cover my revision. Several months later I fought them and got the decision overturned and here I am again. I think I have a psychological aversion to protein shakes now, but... Oh and of course my one meal a day I threw up, thanks lap-band!

I can sympathize and empathize with you!
I remember when I did the 5 day ketosis diet about a month ago. It's nothing but 3oz of protein and 8oz of broth 3x a day for 5 days. I was so frikin sick! But when I went to get tested for ketones to make sure I was compliant with the diet I had lost 14lbs in 5 days. I hope I never have to see broth again! LoL
Good luck...You can do it!

Hi Karen,
They sure did! They have all of their patients do a ketosis diet for compliance. If you go for your appointment on day 6 and are not producing ketones they will deny doing the surgery. They will probably give you one more chance after having you meet with the dietician and psychiatrist again. If you don't produce ketones they view it as, if you can't comply with this 5 day diet then why should they think that you will be committed to making the necessary lifestyle changes required for you to be able to be successful after surgery. Dr. Valin is a great dr. and he is recognized as a dr. of excellence. They don't mess around.

If you are like me, you reached a point when you told yourself "I will do anything to get rid of this stupid band!".
So right now, the "anything" is in the form of shakes. You can do it, and trust me it is SOOOOO worth it! My quality of life without the band it about a million times better. Seriously--if they told me I had to eat bugs to qualify for the revision, I would have ;)

- Battling Regain Weight: 135 (current)
You can do this! Like Juniper said, it'll be worth it! I, too, would do anything to get rid of my band! My surgery is on Sept 28th so Sept 21st is my liquid diet start date... to be honest, I am kinda looking forward to not having to make choices for food for a week. Make the husband fend for himself.
