What's On Your Thursday Menu, RNYers?
Good morning all! So, I know I've said it before, bit I'mma say it again. You guys are awesome. There's so much support and solidarity here, I LOVE it. We're all on this crazy ride together. Group hug!
That being said, I'm feeling much more in control this morning. Well, for the moment. LOL I actually let myself feel hungry last night and didn't immediately try and fill that void. Someone here on OH (can't remember who off the top of my head) says "hunger isn't an emergency" and I really tried to keep that in the forefront of my mind. And that's my goal for today: to be mindful. I'm a work in progress, my friends.

B: coffee and a Sahale Snacks almond pack thing. I'm Mother Hubbard for real, so I had to stop at the Nice n Easy on my way in for some foods.
S: cheese cubes and grapes. Also a Nice n Easy grab.
L: I have to run out so I'm hoping that Tops has their awesome rotisserie chicken salad in the deli case. So good. I'll have that with 34 degree crackers and a couple more cheese cubes
D: More chicken salad (I'm really banking on this today, LOL) and a HB egg

Good Morning! I see a lot of awesome sayings and advice from Grimm Traveller and I think that might be one of his too.
I really like the "group hug" feeling of the thread as well! I missed it the days I was away from my computer. It holds me accountable and everyone is really nice and supportive. Yea for us!!

WE LOVE YOU TOO
I feel like a truck hit me this morning. I'm probably just dehydrated and sore but I really feel exhausted. I ran 9 miles last night after work in 85 degree heat and sun. By mile 7, I wanted to kil myself but I made through the run only to be a lump the rest of the evening. I also did not get the protein in yesterday I needed. I NEED to hydrate and eat protein today, no excuses. We have too much going on in the next few days for me to be useless.

OMG. I found out how important hydrating on a run is during the half marathon I ran in May. I was aways good on training runs but at the actual event all my training went out the window. By the end, my toes were cramped and looked like claws and it took me 4 hours after the race before I could pee! Drink, drink, drink!!!!
I didn't during the half. My 1 year post op appointment was 2 days after the race and I was talking to my surgeon about it. He runs so I thought he would be a good person to ask. He confirmed that I was severely dehydrated and probably should have gone to the Med tent for IV fluids. In the future, he told me to alternate drinking water with Pedialyte. He loves Pedialyte and drinks it on longer runs. He had me drinking Pedialyte after surgery because I was having a low blood pressure issue and he wanted me to have the extra sodium. I don't love it, because it tastes salty to me. I have a friend who is a surgeon and he told me Pedialyte is just half strength Gatorade so I can try that half and half with water. My surgeon likes the pedialyte because it comes in single serving powder tubes that he carries with him and just dumps into water. I may have to try it again on longer training runs. He also recommended Shot Bloks by Clif. I really like them, they have a good balance of electrolytes, etc. I can't eat a full "serving" at one time (3 bloks) because 3 land like lead, but if I have a blok every 2 miles or so, I'm good to go!
Strange you mention Shot Bloks, I had them with me last night (trying new things) and I'm fairly certain they saved my butt. I popped 3 when i thought I was dead and 5 min later I was running again. I was looking at Infinit to see if they could customize something with salt, calories and less sugar for me. I will definitely look at pedialyte. Easy and quick, and I know they will have Gatorade on the course so I take one water and one Gatorade and switch off. There is just such a learning curve to all this.
The shot bloks have saved me on more than one occasion. My surgeon wasn't (and isn't) concerned about the sugar content since he said I'll burn it off. Also, if you don't eat them all at once, the sugar shouldn't be a problem. A confession, I'm an interloper on your board . . . I had VSG and we don't dump so if your concern with the sugar is dumping, try to space them out. On long runs I consume a whole package (6 bloks) but at 2-3 mile intervals and my stomach feels fine!
I have the Strawberry in my running belt right now! I also like the Black Cherry and Orange. The Black Cherry has caffeine (the equivalent of a full shot of espresso) and it may be all in my head, but I get a bigger boost. The orange is half a shot's worth of caffeine. Those three are my favorite. My surgeon also likes and has recommended the margarita flavor since it has extra salt.
