? For the lactose intolerant folks
So I've had 2 cases of upset stomach in the past few days. First time was bad enough I left work early to go home and lay down, a bad crampy feeling. Yesterday I just felt extreme bloating, and a 'sour stomach' feeling. Looking at my diet the only thing I can connect both incidents to is milk. I supplement my protein intake from time to time with shakes, which I use milk in. (Once or twice a week). Also I'll occasionally eat cereal, which I had yesterday morning, with milk. I've not had any diarrhea, actually I'm pretty regular, bm's haven't been an issue for me at all, I don't need miralax, etc.
Right after surgery I used lactaid milk, but I eventually went back to regular since I tolerated it ok (and prefer it).
My question is, how long after ingesting milk would one feel the effects of being intolerant and how long does it last?
I'm going to go without milk for a few days to see if the upset stomach disappears.

I had to take milk out of my diet. I use a little in my coffee, but if I tried to drink a glass I'd be in the bathroom post haste. The last time it happened (which was the incident that made me quit) it took about a half hour before I was feeling sick and lasted a couple of hours. It makes a little sad, because I used to love a cold glass of milk. *sigh*
Yep, I can eat cheese and even yogurt without any issues, but straight milk is a killer!
I became lactose intolerant, but for me it was diarrhea. I just use Lactaid milk and don't taste any difference from regular milk. I can eat yogurt and cheese with no problems, but avoid regular milk. I can have regular milk if I chew the lactose tablets first.
Real life begins where your comfort zone ends
I have been lactose intolerant for years. I drink Lactaid milk and when I eat cheese or yogurt I chew a Lactaid pill. No problems if I do that, if I don't I am very gassy and get cramps about an hour later.
