Gallstones

So apparently I found out that I have gallstones. Been having stomach pain for a few days so I made an appointment to see my surgeon today at 4:30. Last night about an hour after eating dinner I was doubled over in pain. I had what I would describe as a spasm in my stomach and really severe back pain. I ended up going to the ER and after blood work a sonogram and a cat scan they told me I have gallstones. They also said my pancreas is inflamed and that it's possible one of the stones is getting stuck in the bile duct. They decided to admit me (which I wasn't happy about) and I'm sitting in my hospital bed writing this. I'm curious how many people have had this problem and did you need to have your gallbladder removed. The pain I had yesterday was probably the worst pain I've ever felt and definitely don't want it to come back. I'm hoping they discharge me and I can make my Dr appointment later and get some more answers, until then I'm hoping some of you can shed some light.

I didn't have any problems with gall stones because my surgeon prescribes Ursodiol for six months following surgery for all patients.  It seems ridiculous to me that all surgeons don't do this as a standard practice.

I had gallstones for years and the pain is horrible.  They took my gallbladder out with my RNY in May and they said it was worse than they had originally thought. I am so thankful to finally have it gone.

Apparently losing a lot of weight can cause gallstones too, so maybe getting it removed would be the best thing. See what your doctors and surgeon's say.

Hope you feel better soon. Keep us posted.
