Food isn't sicking with me - stomach growling constantly lately

I'm not sure what's going on the last few days. I haven't changed what I eat, or how much I eat. But the last 3 days or so I've hungry a lot. I feel like when I'm done eating I'm hungry maybe half an hour later. So I tried to have a popsicle or a pickle in between regular meals - because they don't have many calories and they're my go to snack when I'm close to my calories but am hungry. But neither have worked to curb my hunger. This is the first time I've had this kind of hunger issue since the surgery 5 months ago.

Any advice?

I have noticed that I am getting more hungry now. I recently stopped drinking protein shakes everyday, and I am now getting all of my protein from food most days. Maybe you have just reached the point where you need to think about increasing your intake a little bit. I stated to feel like I could eat more once I reached the five month mark, and now I can eat about 5 ounces at a time. But you should also make sure you are drinking enough because often times hunger is caused by not drinking enough. I have been going through phases. One day I will be hungry all day, and then the next day I won't feel like eating anything. It could also be related to something you are eating or drinking, so be on the lookout for that to. The most important thing is that you stick to your plan.

Are you taking an acid reducer (PPI) like Prilocec or Nexium?  Excess acid can act like hunger.

Our stomachs make a lot of noise after surgery.  Don't mistake stomach noise (growling) for hunger.  It's not hunger!!!!  Measure your portions out and stop eating.  It is important to train ourselves to be satisfied with smaller portions.

It's OK to let yourself feel hunger.  Nothing bad will happen to you if you wait until your next scheduled meal.  Hunger is not an emergency that requires immediate attention.  You have plenty of reserve fuel  for your body to use for energy.

Many of us have never allowed ourselves to feel real hunger.  We have eaten at the first hint of hunger and that's how we ended up obese.  Embrace the hunger.  Allow yourself to feel it.  Eat only at scheduled meal times and don't let the hunger control you!

Well said!! My stomach makes lots of noise even after I eat. I know it is not due to hunger.

My hunger never went away, so I imagine it's fairly common for it to eventually come back in those who lost it initially. I was hungry again the day after surgery, although it takes much less to "tame the beast" now. I try to eat 5-6 small meals a day so I never get so hungry that I eat too fast and make myself sick. I'd recommend trying to work some protein into your between-meal snacks though. Something like a yogurt or cheese stick might hold you over better than a popsicle or pickle.

I also second what everyone said about the rumbling...mine makes noise all the time, usually after I've eaten, but it has no relationship to feelings of hunger anymore.

No, it's been 5 months since surgery and I have definitely heard my stomach make those crazy growling noises lol! These are definitely different. I'm actually hungry. And I never had the magical feelings of hunger disappear either, I've felt hunger since the surgery but not like this - not so soon after eating another meal and not multiple days in a row like this.

I thought the same thing about switching to something with protein instead of empty calories and I tried cheese today and the hunger stayed away longer but I was still hungry sooner than normal. I'm drinking plenty of water and sticking to everything else like I should. Even with being so hungry I haven't gone over the calories that I stick to in a day or anything but it's driving me crazy.

I'm not on an acid reducer and I always measure my portions. I really don't want to increase my calories yet, I wasn't planning on doing that for another 2 months or so because I've been satisfied with what I eat and have been losing slow and steady so haven't seen a reason to change anything.

Are you now eating dense protein (i.e NOT ground meats, not deli meats) but real chicken, real steak, real pork.

Are you in a stage where your plan allows for it?

If you are able to eat real food,I would eat the dense, nonprocessed/non-ground meats. That helps me.

And sometimes, around my period, I feel like i could eat the world. That is hormones. You got to fight it.  I use cucumbers and tazakki or red pepper and tzakki/hummus. Dont go too wild on the tzakki and hummus though. There are calories in there!

I eat a combo of both. I eat deli meats for lunch many times but cook meals with real chicken, steak and have been eating a lot of seafood.

I don't have any ovaries due to cancer so no hormone issues with my period so that is one thing I don't have to worry about.

I would post what you are eating. That may help others to help you figure out what is going on.
