They inflate your innards during surgery to move around inside, so it's not gas like you usually have. Walking and moving around is really the only thing that will help. It took about a week for mine to go away.
It also was a week before my first bowel movement. I had to take milk of magnesia a few time to get things moving. Be careful with that. Because of your internal stitches, you don't want to push too hard.
