at 3.5 months post, approx?   My NUT and DR says about 600 for the first year?  Hair is falling out like crazy at 60 g protein - any thoughts on Silica Complex?  Thanks!

600 for the first year! That sounds unrealistic to me, but I guess it's possible if you drink a protein shake everyday. However, eventually shakes get less satisfying because they do not stay in our pouch and then you will probably start to feel more hunger. I know that I am no longer satisfied on that few calories, and I do get hungry if I don't stick to my eating schedule.

In order to get at least some healthy fat, the minimum amount of fiber necessary to keep me from having to take Miralax, and 60 or so grams of protein, I typically need 800 to 850 calories. At 3.5 months I was staying closer to 700 calories, but at about 5 months I had to increase my fiber intake.

I'm just about 3.5 months out myself and average 800-1100 a day. I tried to stick to less at first and was just hungry all the time. My initial resting energy expenditure study showed I had a 49% faster metabolism than average, though, so that could be why. I'm still losing steadily (if not quickly), so I gave up being concerned that I was eating too much. However, I regularly get over 100g of protein and have still lost a ton of hair. I wrap my hair ties 6-7 times now instead of 3-4.

Is it possible to get too much protein?  I worry about that now that I am 3 months post op.  My nutritionist set my protein goal at 60-80 grams of protein a day, but sometimes I eat a protein bar or a second shake and it pushes me above that goal.  I forgot to ask at my last appointment.

There is a rare kidney disease that would mean you have to watch your maximum protein intake. Otherwise, have as much as you like. I average over 200 per day, and usually reach 300 once or twice a week.

If you had a major kidney problem, you'd know it.

I worry about that sometimes too, especially since my kidneys have leaked proteins in the past. But my NUT said I'm nowhere near the worrisome zone on an average basis.

What is a resting energy expenditure study?

It's called both a REE and a metabolic study, but basically you sit with a dome over your head for about 20 minutes while it measures how much CO2 you exhale per oxygen inhaled. http://www.vacumed.com/293.html
