What's On Your Tuesday Menu, RNYers?
I know what you mean about portion sizes!!! It has been a real eye opener to me exactly how much food I had been eating before WLS.
I was trying to explain a similar concept to my husband this morning as to just because we cook 2 lbs of shrimp and I only eat 2-3 ozs of it, doesn't mean that he needs to eat the rest of it in one sitting. His thoughts about it was that shrimp can't be kept long so it needs to be eaten. Hey, I guess I am going to have portion off some for me to have the next day and hide it in the back of the fridge!
My first big girl post!
I’m just three weeks out, and my diet is “almost” normal now. I’m starting to try new things, and think I’m getting the hang of it. Today is my second day back to work and I think that having a schedule again is helping me to manage my eating. Being at home left too much open to forget to eat and drink.
This is what I’m planning to have for the day:
B: HB Egg, frigo cheese stick
S: ½ premier protein drink
L: 2oz finely shredded chicken, ½ ounce shredded cheese and ½ Tumaro’s Low Carb Ancient Grains wrap. I will most likely only take a few bites of the wrap, since it’s very filling.
S: 7 pepperoni slices and a laughing cow light swiss
D: same as lunch
S: ½ premier protein drink
The only reason I am drinking the protein drinks is because I’m struggling to get all of my protien in. I have posted it because this is what I have planned for the day, but honestly I will not be able to actually eat all of this. I’ll adjust anything out, but this is my goal. what I am trying to eat. For the last week or so I’ve been averaging about 450 to 500 calories a day, and my protein has been only about 45gms a day.
I’m still trying to get it all in. Vitamins are started, water is going down. Exercise will be a walk around my sub this evening before dinner. Still haven’t been released to work out.

Get your protein in, girl!!! I struggled with it in the beginning and I am dealing with the hair loss consequence of it, now. They say you lose the hair regardless but I blame mine on my low protein #s in the beginning. I still do a Premier Protein drink every morning. They were so yucky to me right after surgery but, I like them now! And, I intend to keep drinking them.
As to eating everything, I will be honest, too, I still struggle to get in every thing that I post in my menu daily. I just make sure that I eat protein 1st and everything else after. You will find that some days are small pouch days and some days you can eat more. It seems like I have the most head hunger issues on my small pouch days... I have to sort this one out!
Good luck and glad you're finally able to eat semi-real food!
It is OK to drink protein drinks! I still have one a day and I am 13 months out. It would be a struggle to keep my protein up otherwise. Lately I occasionally have 2 if I am running around a lot. Easier than taking snacks and I think better for me than protein bars.

I have a pumpkin coffee recipe that I made the other day.
I love pumpkin swirl from Dunkin Donuts, but due to the sugar content I will not indulge in it. I was so bummed that I went home and took 3Tbsp of light cream, 1Tbsp of sugar free caramel sundae topping melted, 1/4tsp of pumpkin pie spice, and a sprinkle of nutmeg. Whisked it all together for a minute and then added it to my cup of coffee. Can you say pumpkin heaven.
AV - don't hate me but I think pumpkin is the most disgusting flavor LOL. I do not enjoy it at all. Which is good because I can avoid the temptation of those high carb latte drinks at Starbucks :) Considering I already have an addiction to iced coffee with half and half...
Like Anny, I have been absent from the post, and I want to come back here and be accountable for my menu. The social drinking has been creeping up lately - not in a transfer addiction way, but in a "let's meet and have a drink or two" way...and I certainly don't need those calories. So I am trying to figure out how to prioritize the few days a week that I have wine or vodka/soda, since I am such a social person. And I am on the dating scene, as well. Anyway, my thing to figure out, just talking out loud here...
Time Since Surgery: 20 months
B: 2 hard boiled eggs, less than 1 oz of cheese, green olives
L: Some honey sriracha chicken skewers I got in the deli case at Safeway, jalapeño and artichoke dip from Trader Joe's

S: Cheese and roasted peppers
E: I did an hour on the elliptical this morning, I will walk to dinner

Have a great day, all. It's so nice to "read" you all here and see what everyone has going on! :)
