Hi Karen, I know you have seen me post about how happy I am for my revision, but really...so happy!!

I wondered, too, if I was just setting myself up for more drama. I couldn't wrap my head around how RNY would work without making me sick, like the band did. Everytime I would go to a support group meeting I'd ask an RNY post-op "What does it feel like when you are full?" and they'd look at me like I had three heads and say, "I don't know...I just feel full." But for me feeling full never happened--I just threw up and felt miserable all the time.

So, I'm here tonight feeling very full and satisfied after a few bites of chicken. Here is what I know: a.) I could never have eaten this with the band in and b.) if I had the band removed and no revision, I would not be feeling satisfied and full.

You know your body better than anyone else, so this is entirely your own decision to make, but I just wanted to make sure that I tell you how happy I am that I made the choice to revise to the RNY, for myself.

You and everyone here is correct about their advice! I think when things are moving along (paperwork, etc) you adjust to it (the surgery). But when bam, things move faster than you anticipated, you panic.  I never did find that "sweet spot" bander's talk about, I have no clue what feeling full, feels like. I too, am tired of vomiting in my sleep, and coughing all night. I know I need this band out, and logically in my head it make since for the revision to be done now (one surgery), I just panicked.

Best wishes in your research. I had RNY 9 years ago... it was the best decision I ever made.

Karen,

Best of luck. I'm also awaiting a revision from band to RNY and hoping I'll be approved. Your band sounds just miserable.  I'm sorry you've had to go through all that.

Get good rest and have an open mind on Monday. We'll be pulling for you.

Good luck!  I just had a band-to-bypass revision a couple of weeks ago.  The first few days were a little rough because of pain, mostly on my left side where the port had to be taken out.  To be honest, it was probably made worse because the way my hospital room was set up, I was having to get out of bed to my left, which was difficult because I'm short and couldn't get great leverage to get out of bed without using my abdominal muscles.  Other than that, though, it's been a breeze compared to living with the band.  I'm already on solid foods, and I have been able to tolerate everything I've tried (mostly proteins, with a few bites of veggies thrown in).  As you probably know, that's a far cry from living with the band.  I've not had any issues with nausea, other than a couple of mild episodes while still at the hospital (no actual vomiting).  I'm getting all of my fluids and protein (I'm supposed to supplement with shakes for a full year), and I will be starting my vitamin supplements this week.  I'm back at work (I work a desk job) with no issues, too.
