Anyone willing to look at my diet to see if needs improving?

Just curious if it could be tweaked for the better here or there. I've been a slow and steady loser for the last few months - usually losing 2 pounds a week, sometimes 3 but almost always 2. Here are a few sample menus. I'm always below 30 grams of carbs. I'm almost always below 700 calories, I'm about 5 months out today. I just was wondering if I should be switching things up all in terms of my numbers. Thanks!

Breakfast: Premier Protein shake (160 cal)

Lunch: 2 ounces of deli meat - either turkey or chicken + 2 slices of ultra thin provolone cheese (130 cal)

snack: mozzarella cheese stick (80 calories)

Supper: Three cheese italian style chicken sausage (150 calories)

snack: sugar free popsicle (15 cal)

535 cal 66 protein

Breakfast: Premier Protein shake (160 cal)

Lunch: P3  Protein pack (180 cal)

Supper: Taco Casserole (75 cal)

Snack: cheese stick + hummus (150 cal)

Snack: 1/2 pack of chees-o's (75 cal)

640 Calories 70 protein

To me your calories and protein seem low. Tzo up the protein your calories will go up. I fluctuated around 750 a day at that point, some days less, some more.... I would shoot for minimum 80g protein.

I haven't ever got much above 70g of protein and I struggle with that now unless I eat seafood that day. I'm always worried about the calories, wondering if I go up that high I won't lose at all since I'm a steady loser and not a big loser. But I should really try for increased protein, i'll make that my goal for this upcoming week!

Sometimes I think we get in a rut with what we eat and the exact calories/protein per day. Trying something new, and having a higher protein/calorie day here and there might actually move things along. A good rule of thumb is for every ten calories you are eating there should be at least 1g protein. 100calories at least 10g...etc.

Yeah, I'll see where I can increase things. I was really in a rut with eating the same things ALL of the time which was super boring. But we've been making recipes like casseroles that are healthy for me and I've been getting in veggies now finally and some fruits which makes me much happier than I was with my food. I'm at about exactly 5 months right now so hitting 700-750 in calories is probably not a bad thing. Just paranoid!!

What does your plan say from your doctor. Mine was a joke he said we could eat grilled cheese after surgery. I mean like weeks after. Not months or years.

It is good to come here. The vets are here to help and so are us newbies.

Mine was ridiculous and I haven't listened to it after the 3rd week because it had me eating crackers and potatoes then. The second month it had me eating rice and pasta. So I threw it away and cobbled together my own plan basically from listening to a bunch of vets from here. So far, so good, but that's also why I don't want to take it for granted that I'm doing everything right!

Melinda,

As you know I am 1 day off from your surgery day and I think you are doing just fine!  I am currently at an average of 639 calories and 75 proteins a day.  My doc office says not to go over 750 calories and to aim for 75 proteins at this point.  Of course to stay with protein first as you already know.  I did hit a little "stall" if that's what you want to call it since it was probably more due to lack of exercise this month, I think with me babying my head (staying in bed or at the doctors) so much this past month I didn't work out as much as I like so that was probably one of the reasons for the lack of weight lose but hopefully (as per the scale this morning) I am back on track as long as my head allows.  Anyways, keep doing what your doing because it's working!  Keep up the good fight!!

Melissa

You are doing great.  At five weeks out I could not eat that much.
