6-Month Follow-Up With Surgeon Today - What Should I Ask Him?

Any thoughts on this?

I'm going to ask for permission/prescription for daily use of Miralax because the Benefiber just isn't cutting it.

I'm going to ask if there should be any changes to my daily vitamin routine.

I'm going to ask if there are any new foods I can/should add.

What else???  Anyone????

Oh, and I think I'll ask him if he has a set goal amount in mind.  I have one, but we've never discussed it.  Is this something the doc can help me with?

I had a Dr visit recently at 4.5 months out and I asked about a goal weight for me.  My own goal was to lose 100 lbs and I asked what their goal was for me and they said they don't like to impose a goal weight on anyone, just let people lose at their own pace but also with the proper diet. Let me know what they say!  Great job so far Corrie33

Vitamin issues may not be showing up at 6 months. It's a little early. But ask for printouts of all your labs, and start tracking them, either on paper or a spreadsheet. The trends over time are really important. Your numbers may still be in range, but if they have been dropping steadily, you should adjust now.

You should be able to eat most things by now. Not that you should.

Thanks Grim - that's great advice.  I like the idea of a spread sheet.

My food directions show that after 6 months I can now try raisins, grapes, corn and peas... and maybe lean steak (if approved).  I haven't tried any of those things yet.  (And I'm not necessarily in any hurry either - I'm doing really well and don't want to jinx anything!)

Corrie,

You've got some great questions for your surgeon. I like the one about goal. Mine never said what goal I should have either. Can you please let me know what they say about Miralax? I am having issue with this as well.

Keep up the good work, you are doing so well.

Robin

Hi Robin,

My appointment went well and the doc was pleased with my success so far.  He okay'd the Miralax, but said if I was going to take it every day to just use 1/2 a cap full instead of a whole.  Also, because of the wonderful advice I've gotten here, I check with my PCP and she's writing me a script for the prescription version (should be the exact same thing), and if my insurance covers it I'll save a fortune (that stuff is expensive OTC.

Also, he did give me a goal of 30 more pounds to lose, which is pretty much what I'd set for myself.  He wants to see me in another 3 months, I hope to have lost most of that by then.

I'm stoked!!!!!

Good luck to you, robin.

Corrie,

Thanks for the information. That's good news that you are doing so well. It's totally a lifestyle change. What a pay off though. I've never been able to loose weight like this. Takes a lot of dedication. Good luck Corrie.

Robin

You can buy Miralax without a script. My surgeon also said they don't set goals. I have my 6 months follow up next month. on 9/10
