Yesterday felt pretty crappy for most of the day. Today felt pretty good until about 6pm. Now my stomach is pretty upset, diarrhea again and don't even want to eat my last meal of the day but I will cause it's all part of the journey and I need some nutrition. On a positive note I have lost 7 pounds in 2 days!

Remember I told you that living a ketosis lifestyle is what we aim for in our post op lives.

What in the world is a ketosis diet?

Here is the definition:In normal cir****tances, the body gets its energy from glucose. Typically, glucose comes from carbohydrates - sugar and starchy foods such as bread and pasta - which the body is able to break down. Glucose can either be used to fuel the body or stored in the liver and muscles as a chemical called glycogen.1

If there is not enough glucose present, the body will resort to an alternative strategy in order to fuel itself. Excess fat will begin to be broken down in order to provide a source of glucose. A by-product of this process are ketones.

Ketones are acids that build-up in the blood and can appear in urine. In small amounts, they serve to indicate that the body is breaking down fat, but high levels of ketones can poison the body, leading to a process called ketoacidosis.2

Ketosis is the name of this metabolic process whereby the body converts fat into products that can be used to burn for energy, in turn making ketones

This is the diet that my dr. gave me.

3 oz of lean protein, 1cup broth, 1 cup of water for breakfast lunch and dinner

meats and fish need to be broiled, roasted, grilled or baked.

a minimum of 64oz of non caloric liquids each day. you can count the broth towards the liquid intake. Broth is for extra sodium your body needs while on the diet.

Condiments allowed: onion powder, garlic powder, salt and pepper.

Other liquids that you can have are coffee, tea, seltzer, crystal light, diet sprite or 7up. You can use artificial sweeteners, heavy or light cream in coffee or tea.

You have take a multi-vitamin everyday.

This a 5 day diet that my dr. has everyone do during time leading up to surgery. This is to show him that you can comply with directions and also shows commitment. At the end of the 5 days you have to go to his office and take a urine test to prove compliance.
