30 to 40 lbs a month!!! Lordy, I dont think I can recall anyone losing 30-40 a month and i am a nosy numbers watcher. If anyone would have posted "SV-I lost 30 lbs!!!" I would have totally read that post like a million times, confident that the secrets to life, the universe and weight loss was in there.

I only lost 7 pounds my second month so they can suck it.  You are on course to lose a ton of weight in a year.  You are super hard on yourself sister.  She has no control over you so don't let her bring you down xoxoxo

Sounds like your surgeon's PA is a ******g asshat.  Seriously.  AN ASSHAT.

Just for some perspective -- I've lost 198 pounds in 18 months.  Here's my first few month's losses --

Month 1: 24

Month 2: 17

Month 3: 13

Month 4: 14

Month 5: 11

Your weight loss goal is TOTALLY DO-able.  Screw her.  ASSHAT.

Just FYI you've been a person I've watched since I first got on here because our target weight loss is similar and because you've kept it off and your attitude. I so want to be that successful.

The PA also told me that they see people losing around 100-150 pounds, 150 being abnormally high. I kept thinking I AM NOT over halfway to where I'm going to end up. There is NO WAY!! But I kept my mouth shut because with the mood I was in I didn't feel like arguing.

Well, I have watched you, too.  I always keep track of the newbies and get a sense of those who are likely to be successful, and sadly, those I see perhaps having less chance --- and you've always been a poster that I see being a long-term success.  It's obvious to me that you "get it" and are really working your plan.  Don't let some asshat PA steal your thunder -- she likely has NO IDEA where you've come from and what it feels like to take this journey.

In my program, her stats for loss are probably right on target.  Most of the people at the Cleveland Clinic lose around 100 lbs despite how high they start out -- but that's because most of them are eating off plan and think surgery is a magical cure to their obesity problem.  It doesn't help that outside of my specialized metabolic eating plan (specifically designed for research into diabetes remission) that the NUTS are anorexically thin women *****commend the food pyramid with crackers, cream of wheat and mashed potatoes as food options.

BUT, like yourself, I decided right from the start that I didn't have my guts re-arranged to still be obese.  I chose to enter the much more restrictive eating plan (the metabolic plan) which amazingly coincides with the eating style of most all of the long-term vets on this site.  There is nothing holding you back from being as successful as you want to be.  Certainly not a pathetically inept and callous PA at your surgeon's office.

Melinda -- you are already succeeding.  Keep up the good work.

I hate hate hate hearing this. Ugh, weight loss can't be analyzed by cookies cutter standards!! I think your doing awesome, and most importantly your applying the needed dietary changes which will carry you further in the long run.

I'd try to avoid seeing that PA again.

This is nuts - I bet very few people lose that fast.  I lost 16 lbs the first month.   That woman would hate me...

I'm sorry that happened. I have concluded that despite working with WLS patients everyday most surgeons and their staff just don't get it. Most of them have no idea what it is like to actually be obese, go through having surgery, and learn how to live after the fact. Plus they seem to have little interest in us the further from surgery we get, so they aren't gaining that understanding. That is why this website is such a great place because those here actually have that experience.

Don't listen to her nonsense about weight loss. I have not lost more than 20 pounds any month except for the first one, whi*****ludes the pre-op diet, and there is nothing wrong with that. Of course your goal is achievable, and more, if you stay committed.
