I noticed that you have been a member here since 2002. Have you been researching your options all this time??? Or did you have one surgery and are revising to another?

Regain can and does happen no matter what surgery is chosen. There seems to be an equal number of regain posts on all the specific surgery forums. DSers likes to claim the best overall results, but they regain, too. Changing your lifestyle is the only way to lose the weight and keep it off. No surgery is magic.

To answer your question, I had RNY almost 7 years ago and have lost and kept off 200 pounds. It was the right choice for me.

Laura I once was all the way up to the surgical point back in 2003 but changed my mind and thought I could do it with diet again, WRONG.  So here I am now with a surgery date coming in two weeks.  I've dieted dieted dieted and yo yo yo yo'd all over the place in the last ten years.  I've researched for two years thought I had my mind made up on VSG however at my preop appointment the surgeon said RNY is better with your history.

I had surgery in March of 2011 at that time I weighed 338 pounds within 9 months I had lost a hundred pounds the next two years were good the lowest I got was 198 pounds enter my Third year I had medical issues and a few surgeries and was unable to exercise or work out for almost 2 years in those two years I gained 20 pounds but I am also waiting for a surgery date for a revision for my gastric bypass but all in all it was well worth it. I am currently at 214 pounds and I stand at 5 feet 4 inches

I am just a few weeks shy of 2 years post-op revision from Lap Band to RNY.  Best decision I ever made for myself.

I'm 5'4" started at 252 lbs and got as low as 113 lbs due to complications from hernia repair surgery and have been stable in my maintenance weight range of 125 lbs for 6 months.

Ultimately regain is about what you chose to put in your mouth and how much of it - not the particular surgery you chose.  I highly recommend listening to your surgeon - I wish I had the first time mine suggested RNY to me in 2006!  Good luck with your surgery.  It's all about deciding to stay on plan and follow through with your end of the deal - your tool helps immensely, but you are responsible for the rest.

EXCELLENT advice.  Regain is ultimately about what we chose to put in our mouths and how much of it.

I lost a total of 131 pounds and have regained 20# since my pregnancy in July of 2014.  My surgery was 5/9/2012.  I'm going back to eating basics to shed this 20.  I don't want it to get any further out of control.  My problem was that I wasn't gaining weight during my pregnancy and I gave myself a license to eat whatever I wanted....which led to a peanut m&m addiction.  I've yet to lose that addiction.  I eat a handful each day and am done.  I believe that is what has contributed to this gain.  I walk, but it's the not back to basics that has made me regain some weight.
