weight gain

I am 7 years out and have gained about 5 lbs each year, YIKES! Have been tracking my nutrition on another site, and my caloric intake runs about 800-1000 calories.  Am concentrating on uping protein, limiting carbs and fats, and especially "sliders" (like soda crackers)  Any advise?

How do you measure your food? I suggest using a kitchen scale if you don't already because it is the most accurate. People in general tend to underestimate the amount that they are eating, so it is very possible that you are under reporting what you consume. Focus on making sure your measurements are accurate and you record every single bite to ensure that you are counting your calories correctly. My second suggestion is to focus on eating whole and minimally processed foods. Our bodies are able to break down highly processed foods more readily thereby extracting more of the calories from them, so they are not equal to whole foods with the same number of calories. It is better to avoid them as much as possible.

A lousy 50 calories a day is 5 pounds in a year. 50 calories is a tiny bit of food. An extra pat of butter here, a thimbleful of peanutbutter there, an extra half slice of cheese, and you've got five pounds.

The only way to reverse it is to drop calories, or burn that much more. It's not easy, at all, but the solution is really pretty simple.

Not sure of your height/weight but I would almost say you are not eating enough. I eat approx. 1200-1300 calories a day.

Eating more is going to make her weigh less? Utter nonsense. Most likely she's already eating more than she thinks.

Strongly agree.  800 - 1,000 calories is bird food for just about anyone, no matter how petite they are.

Yes, eating more can make a person weigh less. Each person has a certain number of calories needed to lose weight, gain weight and maintain weight... if she is eating too little calories for her body by eating more it would kick her weight loss back into gear and take her out of "starvation mode"... you can look up "calorie/carb cycling" which explains it further.

Starvation mode is foolishness. Long term VLC diets can slow your metabolism -- studies put it at about 15% -- but only for those with low bodyfat percentages. The obese don't suffer such a reduction.

Eating more calories slows weight loss, or starts regain. It really is pretty simple. All arb and calorie cycling does is cause temporary changes in water retention or loss. If you look at long term numbers, total calories are what count.

I get so tired of hearing starvation mode conspiracy whackadoos. There's only one reason people don't lose weight.

As with most things in life, there are many studies and many theories which all contradict themselves.

Its up to individuals to decide what they believe and what works best for them.

To each their own!

There are studies and theories, and there are facts. And the fact is, if you consume more calories, you either stop losing weight, or start gaining. Feel free to eat more if that's what you want, but it's harmful to advise others to do so.
