I have been walking, squatting, trying to belch and to no avail.  Any experienced veterans out there with tips for 2 days out?  On top of it I think I caught a cold while in hospital and have a cough which does NOT feel good after surgery.  I have been taking my Norco in halves and some simethicone, but can't seem to get any relief.  My stomach looks as though I'm 8 mos pregnant which I can live with but it's firm like a melon and really uncomfortable under my ribs...Trying not to sound whiney, but would appreciate any suggestions.  Please and Thank you!

Take your pain meds on schedule, now is when you need them.  Keep up the walking, you should turn the corner soon, and those BM's/burps/farts will feel like a godsend, but if it hurts to move you won't be able to keep moving.  This too shall pass and be only a faint memory and you'll love being on the journey!  Good luck as you continue to heal!

I got a cold about 3 weeks post op... Talk about a painful cough!!! Best thing you can do is keep a pillow nearby and cough holding a pillow firmly across your abdomen.

I didn't bother with gas relief products, I walked as much add I could, but it was slow and miserable.

As you drink, make sure you aren't swallowing air.  Some people take longer to release the gas, but it will start soon.  Relief is not too far away.  Sorry you are suffering.

One thing that helped me was while sitting on the toilet, raise your arms up and move your body side-to-side (like a standing ab workout). It sounds silly but who cares, who is watching??  I would just sit there and stretch and move my body around and it did help me pass the gas sometimes.  Good luck.

Silly as it sounds, I tried it and it did help!  Thanks for the suggestion.

I am a week and a half out. Like PeachPie says, use the pillow when you cough. The gas pain was the worst for me also. I took a couple doses of Gas X and it seemed to work.

I am with you on this one I am 5 days post op and my stomach is huge.  Small walks seem to be helping.

I'm out 11 days now. Since Thursday I have dealt with severe gas throughout my back and stomach. Been taking lots of water and milk of magnesia. Today I sipped 1/3 cup of prune juice. Your cold is probably hindering working out the gas. I have been sleeping on a heating pad all night. This morning thought I was at a breakthrough. I had BM and letting out gas. At 2:00 this afternoon...my blood pressure went down real low. Talked to hospital and they are sure I still have lots more gas. How long do you think it will take? I really expected to be in the clear by now. Hope the cold subsides...get better soon and sip sip sip water all day and throughout the night.
