Are you able to vomit?!?!

K so I know the headline probably has you. . As most people who've had surgery can't stop vomiting...

well I'm the opposite.

I have never been able to bring up something that hurts or anything.

NOW I am deathly sick with the flu and would give anything to be able to bring up this bug. All I do is run back and forth to puke. . I gag and gag and gag like I am wildly vomiting.. and nothing. .

has anyone had this problem?

Is it something to do with how we are wired now?

Ugh.. i need to puke! I'm soooo sick!

Please help! We've all had that feeling when we knew if we barfed we'd feel better

There are a number of people who find that they cannot vomit.  It is partly because of the now very limited size of their pouch, they cannot generate enough pressure with their muscles to for e food out of the small pouch.  It is also partly because most of the time the pouch is empty so there isn't anything TO throw up.  The food stayed in your natural stomach for MUCH longer (with the pyloric valve controlling the gradual release of the food) than it stays in your pouch ****il gravity pulls it through the stoma).  So even if you are nauseated, there isn't anything in the pouch or very upper part of the intestine TO throw up.

Some people find that bending at the waist to 90-degrees helps IF they have anything in their pouch to bring up.

If the is nothing to throw up or you still cannot throw up, Benadryl and other antihistamines can help relieve nausea (-and the is no reason we cannot take them), and, depending on how you and your doctor feel about NSAIDs, you might try a dose or two of Pepto Bismol.

Some people also find some relief from peppermint tea (or even a peppermint hard candy) or a tea with ginger in it.

Your best bet, though, may be to contact your surgeon or PCP and get a prescription called in for Zofran, Compazine, or another antiemetic drug.

I hope you feel better!  I had a lot of nausea a couple weeks ago from taking codeine, and it was miserable.

I can do it on command, but it's not retching or anything, more like a baby possetting ...

If I need to move something, I can either drink some soda, or do the bending in half over the toilet thing.

If there is nothing to come up though, you'll just end up with a super grumpy pouch

I can't throw up either. I've tried many times to relief pain but nothing. But I couldn't before my surgery either.

Oh there have been times I wish that I could. Lost the ability about 3 months out.

I can get the foamies. Yuck.

Ugh I couldn't properly throw up when I had my band.  I could bring up bile and stomach acid, but I couldn't bring up anything that might be stuck or giving me pain.  It was AWFUL.  After I got my band unfilled and right before surgery I got sick and ended up throwing up properly for the first time in YEARS.  Let me tell you it was so oddly satisfying.  Not I am revised to gastric bypass and the day after I got home from the hospital I got a blockage and ended up throwing up full on dark green bile for a few days straight.  every 15 minutes at once point.  Now I never want to throw up again.

But I do get it.  Sometimes its just not what you really want though.  find some other way to soothe your stomach.

I've had 2 instances of feeling like I needed to throw up since surgery, and I couldn't either time.
