Iron Deficiency

Does anyone have iron deficiency?  I've been doing my research and this seems the more common risk factor for those several years out.  (I'm having a hysterectomy in a week so that won't be an issue.)  I've read about iron infusion and B-12 injections.  From what I've ready the part of the intestines that is bypassed is the part responsible for iron absorption.

Can anyone add to this or give more information or personal experience?

TIA

The search function is up and running (magnifying glass on the blue bar)  There are 950 results for iron deficiency.

It's a crap shoot whether you can get by on iron supplements or have to have infusions - I have had to do both over the years.   B12 is easily supplemented with sublingual tabs

You will find it very important to stay on top of your vitamins and lab work regularly. I am about 10months out and have not had any iron issues.

I had a hysterectomy 15 years ago and still became iron deficient after RNY surgery.  Some of us just do not absorb iron.  I have had to have 3 infusions.  I take iron supplements, to slow the downward progression of my ferritin level, but will have to have infusions, periodically, for life.  It will be 2 years since my last infusion in August, so I am improving.  Infusions are really not a big deal (if your insurance covers them).  I do get a little nauseated and a headache for awhile, but I feel like a million bucks a few days after.

I don't have a period and I became iron deficient and needed infusions.  I also need weekly B12 shots. The Sublingual B12 does not work for me.

I become deficient app 2-3 years post op. My body used all stored iron and i could not absorb the one I was taking.

Be sure to take your Calcium three hours before or three hours after your multi vitamin with iron.  Calcium interferes with the absorption of  iron.
