WOW! That is great, congrats on all your hard work. I will be having RNY in a few weeks and if you don't mind me asking...do you have much excess skin?

hi karen

i ran and also work out with a trainer 3/4 times a week   But i am shocked by the amount of loose skin in my arms.  that area and the stomach are where the most loose skin is.  i read an article that we lose for about 18 months and then for the next 18 months the skin is adjusting.  and after that the decision about plastics can be made

Thank you for the info. This is the one place I can ask questions and get honest answers.  I know having RNY is what I need to do for my health, I'm just nervous.

Congratulations!  How soon after surgery did you start training for the marathon?  Did you run when you felt weak? Your numbers are similar to mine, and my insurance company sent me information for a 5K run.  I am at the beginning of running 1 minute and walk 1.5 minutes for 20 minutes and I was wondering about paying for the 5K in October when my surgery date will probably be in August.

hi there,

i did a half marathon in May of this year.  so i trained for 6 weeks after surgery.  Advise given to me by the surgeon who happens to be a runner is smar****er that i have to carry with me on all my runs, and the product GU peanut butter flavor.  Yes this is a carb but when we run that is the first thing burned up in our bodies.

I do not think a 5 k would be a problem for you.  Your surgeon will ask that you walk every day as soon as sugary is complete so that will help you maintain for  the race.

good for you, if you have a smart phone there is a great app called couch potato to 5 k that helps you prepare for the race.

good luck on the surgery and questions let me know.

Hi there,

A few tips.

buy baby spoon and fork, this will help you eat slower and smaller bites

buy a pretty small plates for your meals

have the measuring items you need.

the sipping of water is tough at first.  a sip is 1 teaspoon.  amazing how small that is.  you are to sip every 5 mins.  you might need to set a timer at first.

walk as much as you can even if just around your couch.  this will help with the gas pain.  usually the left side of ribcage is sore due to where the camera is inserted.

The one most important thing to be aware of is your 1st bowel movement this will not happen for 5-7 days.  and when it does it is painful and not easy.  you should start taking stool softeners by your second day home and have mineral oil there are many things you can take.  but in all seriousness this was the only thing not explained and i thought i would have to go to the emergency room it was so awful.

please in the search engine here look up constipation so you can prepare yourself.

Now that i have made you nervous.  I am sorry but that was the only horrible day i have had out of the 5 months since surgery.

good luck to you any thing else i can add let me know.

It is interesting that everyone's experience is different.  I had my first bowel movement two days after surgery.  While it did hurt, it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.  I also was very regular until I started eating solid foods.  I still go almost every day, but I often feel bloated as if I still need to go.
