Yummy pizza "crust" option

I LOVE pizza... LOVE.  But obviously it's not the best food option for us with its high carb crust.  I know a lot of people do cauliflower crust or cream cheese crust ~ but if you want a quick option, I figured I would share mine.... It's called "Joseph's flax oat bran pita bread". I buy the "mini" ones.   They are about 5 to 6" in diameter.  I cut it open and just use half at a time.  Half has 25 calories, 3g of protein, and 4 carbs (2 of which are fiber).  I put the "crust" in the oven at 350 for about 5-7 minutes to toast it up a bit. When I take it out it's hard, so I put a little sauce on it and about 21 grams of shredded mozzarella ( 3/4 of the quarter cup serving)... obviously you can put whatever you want on it.  Then I put it back in the oven for another 5-7 minutes.  Yummalicious !!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE those pitas! Every time I go to Florida I get some at Publix. Unfortunately I haven't been able to find them in Montreal. They are great for carb cravings since they have very little net carbs.

What I love is how you carefully tried to avoid comebacks like "there's better food choices than pizza" or "a higher protein crust would be a flattened chicken breast" or "healthier toppings would be a vegetable like kale."  Good Job and thanks for the smile.

Yes love the occasional pita pizza. I do have a hard time finding Joseph's, I have bought it on Netrition.com. Another low carb pita I can find sometimes is by Toufayan.

Awesome!   We used to have family movie and pizza night.   The kids said they are willing to give up pizza but I say we should find an alternative way of doing it so I can have pizza with them.   We've already made them give up baked potatoes which was every Wednesday.

I love Josephs Lavash bread. Same cal. and carbs as the pitas. I get mine at Walmart. Little sauce and pepperoni or other meat. Yummm!!

Thanks for posting this!  Sometimes I just want a slice of pizza for lunch and don't want to make the cauliflower crust etc.  This is a great idea.  Do you buy yours at Publix?  Or another store?  And are they in the deli area or on the bread aisle?  Thanks!

Thanks so much for sharing this. Im not a pizza lover but I do occasionally want a slice. This is a great alternative to the normal high cal/fat/carb version
