If the material was thin, I took it in with a sewing machine just by following the seam a half inch to an inch and it allowed me to wear work clothes a little longer. I couldn't do it with thicker material like jeans etc...

I've grown accustomed to wearing things big and baggy.  I guess I somehow thought that was hiding the fact that I weighed 300 pounds.  When I tried on the smaller pants last night it felt so weird because they were actually tailored and the fabric was definitely on my skin.  I've got some issues to work on!

I never said it would be easy. I said it would be worth it.

I didn't buy new pants until one of the guys at work (We have a very tight bunch of folks) told me it was time to buy new pants because I had SBS (Saggy Butt Syndrome) going on and if I wasn't careful someone would think I made a mess in my clothes. LOL  I went out that night but could only find 1 pair of dress pants (on clearance) in my new size (12 or 14 depending on the style) so I wash them out nightly or wear some old dresses I had in my closet that fit.  My saving grace is Fridays are dress down days and I can wear jeans, I bought a couple size 12 that fit and should fit for a little while.  I also only shop on clearance, online yardsales in my area and of course thrift stores.  And as others said, you just feel more attractive and accomplished when you buy a couple things that really fits well.  Good Luck on your Journey! :)

Before I was in "regular" sizes -- I couldn't imagine how easy it is to get beautiful and expensive clothes thrift shopping.  People think I am a real "clothes horse" -- and I get asked constantly how I afford such a great wardrobe.  Funny thing is that 99% of what I wear comes from Goodwill!!  Seriously.  I have all name brand top of the line clothes -- many things still had tags on them -- shopping at Goodwill and other thrift shops.  Secret is to go to wealthier areas...

While I was still in "plus" sizes, I would sell my old clothes on eBay and use the money to purchase one or two necessities with multiple uses: like black pants that can go with anything and a pr of jeans.  My old clothes also funded two vacations!

Until recently, I wore nothing but dresses and skirts. You can belt them and I found that they worked through the the weight loss avalanche! I also found a Goodwill in a super nice neighborhood and one in downtown Sacramento that has tons of great, high end goodies for next to nothing.  If you have a support group that you attend, suggest a clothes swap.

I find many good clearance deals at kohls. Always combined with a coupon. Recently got several tops for $1.80 each pants for 3. Got kohls cash as well. Online is thredup.com. great prices and you can sell there as well. Free shipping for certain amount of purchases.  Goodwill here does not have much. Small store. Found some nice buys at yard sales. My biggest problem now at goal is restraint. Have become s clothes horse.

Oh man I sure can relate to that, I too have become a clothes horse.  I love the thrift stores and will shop when they have half off days. I hit the clearance racks.  In fact over the weekend I hit Kohl's twice and got like 8 tops and sweaters, a dress and a couple pairs of pants for less than $30!  Most of it was 90% off.

I can  work with too big tops, but hate too big pants. I did use belts to at least keep them up. I have found amazing dirt cheap deals at Macy's, Kohls, Old Navy... and got some good jeans clearance at Walmart and Target...

When it came to pants, I had a strategy. I did update and buy new ones - always the same Lee jeans from Walmart and the same black Sag Harbor dress pants from Penneys. That allowed me to see my own progress in a very tangible way as I moved down the sizes. I was able to skip a few sizes along the way and I admit - I did wear some tight jeans a time or two!

Tops and sweaters I got at thrift stores, clearance racks, and even eBay. When I saw a great deal I finally learned to get a few sizes down the scale, so I would have a few things waiting. And of course, I had plenty of things at home that I hadn't been able to wear for a long time too.
